Coastal Foraging With Craig Evans my 4yr old daughter and I are such massive fans of your videos. We live in Fiji, right across the beach and mangroves where we forage a lot as well. I'm so inspired by your educational and adventurous videos! My little girl and I have learned so much and I'm so proud of her when she is able to identify our native marine life. Thank you for your time and patience and sense of adventure! We love You!

You are very welcome Michelle, I find it heartening that you are teaching your daughter about your native marine life,because without this knowledge future generations may not have the respect and care required to save their environment from development ,pollution etc. It is an ambition of mine to visit your beautiful islands, kind regards Craig

Love your videos Craig. i love a good forage but my knowledge no where near compares to yours. i've learnt so much watching your videos. Do you have any recommendations of books or other channels where i could improve my knowledge further? That omelette looks delicious. Try sticking it under the grill to finish it rather than flipping it. it will puff up the egg and make it lighter without scorching the already cooked mussel meat etc with direct contact with the pan. i'm a chef by trade so just a little tip there. it helps it look nicer on the plate too :)
@coastalforagingwithcraigev84476 жыл бұрын

Interesting video! You’re a very knowledge guy, Craig. Keep up the good work! I have a question around the ancient oak tree stump. Any idea how it got the flat surface? Since you said it could be around 8-10k years old wondering if people in those ages had like a saw or something to cut them off so neatly?
@coastalforagingwithcraigev84476 жыл бұрын
It must have been covered by sand/mud for much of that period,that stump has only been exposed for about 15 years. I suspect the flat top came about by it being exposed to the sea water and become part of the exposed sea bed for much of that time. Regards Craig

looked like a first rate omelet ! never tried sand gobies before... I don't think I see them here . reminds me of sculpins & stickleback . have you eaten thoughts ? I may have to try. Your video was interrupted by a long beach walk. foraging for spruce tips, columbine nectar. & some spruce pitch mixed with shredded cedar bark for a fire starting compound... this morning I mostly finished a cooking video... :) & I was able to test 5 pieces of gear I made recently ... a steamer being one of them... I've definitely got to make some of that powered shell... shrimp will have to suffice for lobster . some how i don't think crab would do ... fish bones & fins do very well. thanks for the tips Craig.
@coastalforagingwithcraigev84476 жыл бұрын
Thank you again Nomadic Oasis,I've never tried sticklebacks.The small sand gobies are here in their billions in the estuary areas and really easy to catch with a hand net. Your interruption sounds great.Crab,Prawns and Shrimps work equally as well to make the powder.Regards Craig

lovely video once again craig, these are excellent, would you ever do any abroad foraging? europe maybe? or does it take a total different knowledge set, different species etc?
@coastalforagingwithcraigev84476 жыл бұрын
Thank you again Money Razor, I have often thought of foraging in different temperate areas of the world,Spain ,France,Pacific North West of the USA and Canada,New Zealand etc ,I think these places would have a very similar ecosystem but with subtle differences. I enjoy snorkelling ,having been to the Maldive Islands and the Red Sea cost of Egypt a number of times,these coasts have much smaller tidal ranges than Wales UK. I would rule out hand foraging in places like Northern Australia,because of the lethal species such as the Box Jellyfish and the Blue Ringed octopus,let alone the Salt water Crocodiles,regards Craig

Awesome job craig, yet again. Do you have any gooseneck barnacles in your area?
@coastalforagingwithcraigev84476 жыл бұрын
Thank you again Taku,we don't get the species of Goose Neck Barnacles that grow on the rocks of Northern Spain, but we sometimes get masses of a pelagic species of them that grow on driftwood,that gets blown in from the open Atlantic,regards Craig
