If you could forage for any mushroom in the world, which one would be at the top of your list? 🏆🍄 ► ABOUT THIS VIDEO: Greetings from the PNW, one of the best places where the matsutake grows! Found only in the wild, these elusive mushrooms can be tricky to find. No one has successfully cultivated matsutake yet, so their rarity makes them one of the most expensive mushrooms in the world. Today we venture into the steep terrains south of Mount Rainier to hunt for these earthy treasures. We hit some jackpots and even find a whole bunch of chanterelles! Afterwards, we clean, cook and eat them 🤩 Note: This video was filmed in October 2024. I've only found two ever. Usually under pines, near the beach, but did find one of them under Douglas fir, along with a porcini and some chanterelles. It was a wet summer, so we're having a decent mushroom season. I've found lobsters in places I don't usually. If they're going for $80/lb. at Uwajimaya, or the Pike Place Market, that means if I were still in the business, I'd be paying pickers $20/lb. I buy for $20, the market pays me $40, then they charge $80.

Pro-tip: If your foraged mushrooms are housing worms or other bugs, slice them and dehydrate them. The buggies will dehydrate too and will fall away in the drying process. And now you have a stash of dried mushrooms to use in soups, or to grind into a powder for flavoring. 🌈⭐

Beautiful Matsutakes and Chanterelles! It looked like you all have a fun time foraging for them and receiving expert guidance on how to differentiate between them and poisonous ones, how to clean and cook them too. 🍄 A beautiful hike through the forest of Mt. Rainier too. Thanks for bringing us along!

Hey! Love the videos! Lil tip about holding knives, it's marginally safer and easier to hold it further up the handle, to where you can pinch the back of the blade between your thumb and the first joint of your pointer finger! Hope you find a bunch more chanterelles!

#19 Are you copying my early years??? Lol. I hunted mushrooms with my Dad for years. You should try the boletus scaber, linked to a specific type of tree. Delicious. Love your vids and your joy! Lots of matsutake around where I am now (Shelton area kinda) but hunters can be very protective and at time even a bit dangerous, even on public land. Be careful!

No need to "peel them" like that, just get the dirt off... don't even need a knife as they pull apart like string cheese, similar to chanterelles

Just eat the worms, nobody ever died from little fly larvae in a mushroom. Coock them, spice them up and they will feed your body.
