I am happy that China has been able to raise a lot of people out of poverty, and greatly improved their infrastructures. They are also mass polluters and support warmonger countries like North Korea and Russia, both of which China supports economically despite sanctions. I am happy that quality of life has improved for Chinese people, but I cannot get over the fact that China has a bad reputation in international affairs, and being a westerner myself, I will care about my quality of life in the EU, not that of the Chinese people. Please stop supporting Russia's threat to the EU.
China produces most of the world's products, and production inevitably brings pollution. The Westerners should not enjoy the low prices of Chinese products while blaming China for pollution. China treats customers equally when selling products, but you Westerners are biased against China when you consume them.

You are spot on about the confucius cultrue making a difference. In China, there is the term 儒家文化圈 meaning confucius cultural ring which covers all the countries and regions that uses Chinese characters or used Chinese characters in the past in their languages. This basiclly include the Greater China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and maybe Singapore and part of Malaysia. What you will find in common of these countries, among other things, is less violent crimes, cameras or no cameras. I won't deny that cameras contribute to the better public safety in China, but I don't think that is the main reason.

You are very insightful. Chinese culture is as mixture of Confucius, Buddhism and Daoism. Confucius tells people to value virtue, personal cultivation and family relationship. Buddhism teaches people karma and retribution. Everything you do, good or bad, has consequences. Daoism values the harmony among oneself, people and universe. Chinese don't think one can get away with guilt by pray or something. If you commit something wrong, you have to take responsibility and bare with it lifetime. Chinese style pray or worship mainly for paying gratitude or good fortune.

Hearing ‘Flower of Scotland’ and bagpipes encouraged me to share this wee story: In Melbourne, I played drums in a Pipe Band for 30 years (age 10 to 40). In 1994 I moved to Hong Kong (it was the only way to escape the band - leave the country - or so I thought. Day 4 in HKG I receive a call from the Pipe Major of the HK Pipe Band. They’d been told I was in town and asked if I would like to join. I did - as a drinking member! Scots are everywhere in Asia. I have proof having judged the drumming at a Pipe Band contest in HKG Covention Centre. Band after band, all in full Scottish kit and EVERY player being Asian. It took me a little while to get used to it but it was a most wonderful experience - and totally unexpected. Hope your lum is reeking. Stay well.

Even when I went to the university around 2005, my walkman was stolen and my roommates they all had experiences of some belongings stolen. But the situations do change after 2018. No one steals your cellphone on the street even you just put it in your jean's back pocket. This also makes me feel amazed. I think the main reason is people do get richer and now nobody fucking cares your cellphone because they have more phones than you🤣

People normally steal out of hunger and desperation. When the social fabric is stable and when the society is free from extreme financial hardship, crime rate will be low. Security cameras are necessary tools to help control crowd especially in very large cities and to facilitate tracking of crimes. Security cameras are not exclusive to China but are installed by many countries in cities like New York and London but with little significant impact on crime rate as compared to China. A combination of civid consciousness, culture, education, financial well being and strict law enforcement etc contributed to public safety and order. In China, no individual rights or freedom is permitted to override public common good.

I went to the UK for my uni study 14 years ago, at that time China was way less advanced and safe than what it is now, but I could already sensed the decline, unstable vibe both on security and economy in European countries compared to China, especially in big cities like London, where I studied in, compared to Shenzhen, where I did and do live in now. It is more of a systematic false, an irreversible and unchallengeable destiny of the path of the Western hegemony, which built on old-time and neo colonialism, without more others to exploit, it gets less cheaper recourse to power up, leads to less self-driven power to improve and innovate, which has less capability to compete, then less market shares to make profits and less fortunes to subsidies domestic the first-world way of living, and so on back and forth. So I think it is really a tipping point for the European Governments to reconsider their choices, whether to stick with Uncle Sam or be more independent, and change their ways of thinking towards to regions outside of Europe, aka the white man's burden. Some of my classmates also from China at the time chose to give up their nationalities and immigrant to the UK and the US, and some of those who are still in contact, told us that they really wanted to come back, but unfortunately, the Chinese citizenship is more or less an one way ticket.

I myself have personally witnessed petty crimes on the street of Guangzhou, and I've got a friend who got robbed broad daylight on the street of Beijing, the main reason for fewer pretty crimes these days, I attribute to digital payment, that is cashless. Within maybe just 10 years people pretty much have stopped using cash. Thieves and robbers disappeared because even when they get their hands on your phone, it's next to impossible to access, let alone used it for payment. Another reason is the end of absolute poverty, meaning fewer people are despair enough to do crime, especially when there's little to gain, and high chance of getting caught (cameras).

What makes it so safe? The political leaders, of course.

Hiya - I don't think it's the culture...I mean, every culture promotes the well-being of its society. Otherwise, there wouldn't be a society for that culture! I rather think it's the economic system - socialism vs capitalism. Capitalism is a system that promotes class exploitation. Therefore, thieves or robbers are, in essence, no different from an army invading a country for plunder. Say, Iraq, for example. Socialism, on the other hand, is a step towards Marx's "From each according to gis ability, to each according to his needs". In such a society, there is no need to steal or rob. I quoted Rosa Luxemburg here before, and I'll quote her again: "We will end up with socialism...or barbarism".

You are wrong, but you will always believe you are right…. So who is controlled, you or me. See how that works, ignorance and stupidity like what you are displaying is always laughed at. Then people like you are the first to be sent to the front line… to fight a rich man’s war… and when you are staring at your legs from the other side of the room…. You might just ask yourself, oh why didn’t I listen and then… you bleed out. Blackness. No heaven. No hell for you… just the circus you lived within every moment of the life that you were given but you squandered because you didn’t dig deeper into the background of your handlers. 😂 🤡 🎪
@@xcl-b1e so you are Chinese, what difference does that make, does that give you any authority to make a false statement about me. No it doesn’t, so there is that. I will ignore you from now on as I don’t waste my time with people because at some point in my life I will die and wasting time on stupid stuff/people is something I have decided not to do. But thank you for watching and for taking the time to leave your very insightful and reflective comments… I am a better man for having read them.

Not a thing…. But please continue to carry on in your sad little life because you don’t even see what’s happening and people like you, and your children, will be just a number for the cannon fodder brigade for that rich man’s war. But yeah, continue… sap.
