I lost my faith in 2010. It was, up until that moment, my routine to read the Bible daily. To fill the void I ordered Grayling's Good Book. It has been a good enough replacement.

Without attribution, ideas are disconnected from their origins. It's important to credit the originator, but it's equally important for the reader to be informed about the source of the idea, so they can get expansion on it or so they can understand it in the context that the author intended. In short, it sometimes does matter who said something. If John Dewey rather than Hitler had said, "Success is the sole earthly judge of right or wrong," it would have meant something quite different.

They are afraid of loosing their grasp of exploitation upon humanity. Let's us adopt it as our own THE BIBLE OF LOGOS Globally.

Alot of the bad reviews on amazon uk were by atheists who didn't like the style I think. They said the language was quite strange, trying to copy a biblical style and they also didn't like the lack of references in the book so it's unclear which idea belongs to which thinker.

People do realise we have the internet now, don’t they? If something is so profound that you want to live by it and know more, there are search engines. It may even be of use to double check before we assimilate ideas, thereby owning the concepts therein. It may involve work.

@sojoyful Thank you for that wonderful example of what is wrong with a religious mindset. And for confirming Godwin's Law.

@58robbo Ah, yes. Nothing makes an Atheist like reading the bible. You do realize however, that religion wasn't the foundation of your skepticism, but the first *object* of it?

I don't agree with his anti-footnote thoughts.. If you like a couple of quotes of a person... you might want to read more about it.

It would be nice if Sam Harris had this guy's view of footnotes, or at least put his footnotes at the actual foot of the page and the refrences in the back. I had to have two bookmarks reading the End of Faith. One for where I was in the book, and one for the back of the book for what footnote I was on. There was a footnote marker every couple of sentences. I eventually just said Fuck this shit, if I'm spending my whole time flipping to the back of the book, it's just not worth bothering with.

@sojoyful If you don't want sarcasm, don't spout bullcrap like "you suffer from an absence of doubt" directed at atheists. Absence of doubt is what theists do!

@mljohn62 For your version of god, sure. There are plenty of other peoples/religions that very much disagree with you. How do you know that YOUR version is the right one? Case of special pleading prehaps? (not trying to attack here, just trying to understand why so many people think their specific version is always the right one and everyone else is always wrong to some degree)

@58robbo "religion is the foundation of scepticism" I LOL'd.

@58robbo Well it was catchy enough to ensnare me. Anyway, I disagree. It is precisely because we left the bible belt and the muslims to their own devices why we are in such trouble from them.

@cruiscinlan The bible is a wonderful example of how not to treat your fellow man, so yes it should be kept around even though anyone with a brain can see it is just a pack of older myths combined under one cover.

@mljohn62 How long was a year before the sun was there to orbit around or how long was a day before the flat earth spun. In the story the god always used men to build arcs towers cities and temples. God just made miracles and magic and gave orders. If you had said created in 6 periods or stages you might have a case.but 1000 years is ludicrous. Did he tell you how long he took to make Mars.

@sojoyful Atheism is the realization that all claims of supernatural or creators are presented without any kind of evidence and in most cases are nothing but willful self-delusion. "Obsession with erotica"... Erotica? You mean porn? Oh yes. Which reminds me...had this tab open somewhere...brb...
