If Mauritians had no relationship whatsoever with the Chagossians, why did the UK, in its infinite wisdom, move ( forcefully move would be a more appropriate term ) the whole population of the Chagossian islands to other islands in the Indian Ocean forming part of the ex British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), like Maurius and Seychelles. For your information, Senator, even the Seychelles people speak the same native Creole language, as in Mauritius and the Chagos. If Chagossians had no ties to Mauritius or the Seychelles, the UK could have brought all the Chagossians to Great Britain. It is a clear dismemberment of colonized territories, with forced displacement of population. Mauritius brought the case of this dismemberment of BIOT with forced displacement of population, to the International Court of Justice, because it believes in civilized and democratic values. Mauritians or Chagossians or Seychelles people never kidnapped US or UK citizens, or planted bombs because they felt they had been denied justice. Regarding, who pays who for the Chagos Islands, the Senator seems to infer that Mauritius is demanding payment from the US while the UK does not request anything, in money or in kind, from the US! Who would be so naive as to believe that? Again, I stress that the Senator does not have all the facts. If I was the Senator, I would fire my research staff.
