A beautiful poetic film portraying the ignorance and cruelty of some societies when it comes to women. Mahi feels frustration when she cannot learn and experience life in a normal way, because even speaking is forbidden to her. Thus, she is tormented with a lot of crucial questions, and feels guilty and confused when she is raped (?) by the young man. On top of that, when she becomes pregnant, everybody gives her a cold shoulder and even the children attack her. Consequently, she drowns herself in the river. Sad and poignant, but a very intelligent and innovative film.

She was just a kid.. Innocence should be protected.. Kids should be treated like kids.. don't put burden on them to behave like mature adults..

I'm still not sure what exactly happened in the story, but the atmosphere was magnificent, and very mystical.

I think she 1:37:20 was on heat, the parents could not understand. She end up sleeping with her dad, her bed sheet had blood. The mom told her that nobody should know what happened. She got pregnant, even her best friend was grounded because she didn't kept a secret. Finding no support, She ended her life in the river. I am not sure but this is what l get from it.

It's a very interesting movie and you will need peace and quiet to really enjoy it, as it's a silent movie, but very heart warming. ❤

I see this in a very simple way! The only reason for such shit to go on in a society is a f / - ed up religion I see always behind this kind of thing. I was raised pentecostal Holiness back in the day and it was a cult and caused all kinds of problems in our family for my sisters. My dad tried to be what the hypocrite leaders of the church wanted him to be ! So sad ! The sad thing about it is that the Iranian women are so beautiful and then to be treated the way they are is inhumane! Greetings from south east Alabama USA ☮️❤️

The mother has had 2 kids but didn't understand what hot flash and puberty are all about. Incest is allowed in some cultures, and having 4 wives is OK for them.
