Ford 18N03 Did Not Work On My 2017 F250 Super Duty

This video is about the ongoing door latch issues Ford is experiencing with their F150 and Super Duty line is trucks. 2 weeks ago I had Field Service Action 18N03 performed on my truck and today my door latch will not open. The door handle is as if it is not connected to anything inside the door. In the past I have had issues with the door latches not re-latching after opening them leaving truck doors open. Today I cannot open my door.

Ford bought my 2016 F 150 back over this issue. Got a new 18, was good for the 1st winter, no issues, two weeks ago- 1st big dip in temperatures- now I have the same problem. Ford performed Field service 19N06- the latest fix, and it made it worse! All the shields and funnels, is not the fix- its the aluminum creating all the condensation inside the door, corrodes the cables and actuators over time. Horrible that they can't get this problem corrected in 5 years of production! Ford literally leaving families out in the COLD!

Wow...that is crazy. So sorry you have had the same problems. Ford RAV tried to buy my car back...or should I say...steal it. They offered me $12,000 less than what I could get from Car Max. No joke. I decided to keep the truck and keep my fingers crossed. I did eventually end up getting the extended warranty (the small one) that covers around 119 parts. Better than nothing I guess. I also have 19N06 applied to my truck. Gonna get to 14 degrees this week...should be my first test of this season.

@@AdventuringToday My 150 was a lease, and the settlement I got from Ford RAV basically allowed me to drive the truck for almost 2 years costing me next to nothing and get out of the lease. Keep us posted how the new field service works for you. Mine has been at the dealers going on two weeks, they are going to replace all the cables, latches, actuators, ect. I'm not getting my hopes up.

I ordered a 17 F250 got it sept 16 never had a problem with door s i got a re-call havent brought it in yet.Had the trans re-call done.I live in Chicago 3 years of freezing temps .Love the truck Lariat pkg.Good Luck

There is a post on the Superduty ford truck forum linking to the f150 forum, the f150 has had this problem longer, and they still can't fix it. But they are saying 2 members have come up with a simple fix that seems to be working better than Fords fix. It is called the "Ghetto" fix on the F150 forum. The recall seems to be adding problems. Most owners that have had the issue, believe it is caused by condensation in the doors not rain. Aluminum tends to condense more than steel.

Thank you...I saw that and I am also following that thread. Saw the new TSB today on the 18-19's. My truck is back at the dealership right now. The service writer thinks they just didn't get a "cable" secured to the door handle when they did 18N03. I should know more later today. Thanks again!

same thing took it to get the fix and they had to fix something they did not do right when they did the fix, I had to have the whole fix done for a second time and another dealer as the first dealer messed the fix the first time. The dealer mentioned that ford is looking at a permanent fix but yes this is a mess for ford ,, something simple,. also I opened case with NTSB and with Ford corporate. @@AdventuringToday

I live in Hawaii and had this happen to me. I am a mechanic and started diagnosing it and found it to be the door handle cables get stuck causing actuator to stay in the open or locked positions. The actuator cable mount arms are weak. Im glad it happened when me wife got home and tried to close the doors and the interior lights was still on after normal shut down. FORD needs to fix the cables mount arms on the actuators. No return spring pressure. Sprayed lube on actuator cable mount arms and manually cycled cables interior and exterior handles. Seems to work correctly but it is due to faulty door lock actuator mechanism

My F150 has had 18N03 done twice but it hasn't helped. The dealer is injecting washer fluid concrete in the mechanisms currently. Ford Corporate isn't playing nice with me on it either.

For my 2017 f250 lariat ultimate the passenger side front door it was the cable that hooks up the the inside door handle. Had a slight bend in the cable channel near the handle and I bent it strait and cleaned it up and used some krytox gpl205 grease on the little track that the cable head rides on that connects to the inside door handle and walla. Haven’t had a issue since. But my door issue was not from the frozen temps. Only reason mine had an issue was because we found it while my wife would get out of the truck and go to close the door and the damn thing would come right back at her. We would have to open and close it a few times to get it to stay shut. That’s when I took it apart and figured it out on my own. Easy fix. But thought I share just in case anyone else comes along here looking for some help with a door issue on these trucks.

I think it’s just the cables that are freezing. The main problem with injecting washer solvent in the interior and exterior cables is that it still freezes. Our dealership is injecting WD40 in the cables and there have been zero phone calls of doors still freezing with the use of WD40.

Mine just started today. Had the recall taken care of last year and now my one door won't open. Plus I have the open door but won't close issue as well.

Omg I work night shift, and I just had this problem. My driver door would not open and it was about 25/degrees that night. I thought I was crazy made me really upset. The amount of money we are spending on this truck and for something so simple to be the problem.

17° outside. I had to take off work because of this problem on my 2017 f150. Couldn't even get in on the driver's side door. Finally got the passenger side open, but it wouldn't latch shut.

Sorry that happened. For the Super Duty trucks there is a fix for the 2019's and it is the one that finally worked on my truck after about 8 visits to the dealership. Maybe they can apply something like that to your truck.

My latch gets frozen and the door won’t stay shut in freezing temp. Ford put silicone around the handle assembly which looks terrible now. Last time I buy a FORD. (2016 Ford F-150)

Sorry man...I had that problem a ton on my 2017 F250. Same doors as you have on your 2016. As them to do the fix that Ford came out with for the 2019 Super Duty. I am pretty sure they can apply that same fix to your F150. That one ended up working for me.

What was the problem and what fixed it. I do not live in a cold climate so it has to be something mechanical.

Good question. They ended up replacing all 4 locks on my truck with some new updated mechanism. My son's 2016 has the same upgrade and his truck sits outside 100% of the time and has not had a problem, ever. We bought his truck 2 years ago and have put 50,000 miles on it. Like I say, no problems. I think Ford has this figured out now as long as the truck you are looking at has the fix applied.

So mad I could spit. My 2016 f150 has had this issue multiple times. I recently received some notices in the mail about the recall/fix. My dealer says that the locks must be frozen and not working for them to perform the fix so I can't just make an appointment to fix it anytime. The service bulletin procedure does not require that the locks be frozen to do this work.. Ford just wants to make their customers jump through more hoops. Company should be ashamed of both letting this design persist for years and models but more for making customers wait for it to happen again. Take me off your list of future customers Ford Motor Company.

Wd40 spray on door latch door it self will release also worked for me the door lock 30 to 40 seconds press button up down been to dealer 3 times

I have a 2017...the dealership got approval last winter to apply a fix that was supposed to only be for the 2019's and it worked on my truck. Zero issues so far and I have had at least 6 mornings this winter where the doors would have frozen with 99% certainty last winter.

Yes have the 2017 recall did front latch as per Nhtsa Recall nov/17 (17V-652 )now dealership did 18N03 all doors done with seal and clips 12/19

@@joemonte7140 Here is the FSA code Ford applied...19N02. They had to get approval from Ford Engineering but it worked. I had 18N03 done to my truck and it did not work at all. You might have a different experience. Ford engineering had my dealership placing 3 different types of grease outside overnight in 15 degree temps to help them figure out which one would offer the best characteristics...I think I was on the cutting edge of this issue for the Super Duty trucks as they were running experiments on my truck to determine what might work best for a permanent fix. It was not fun for me...although I did get to test drive nearly every F150 truck for offers. LOL.

Iv just had this problem on my 16 f150 on driver side door they changed the two front door latchs hopefully it will work but this is as series as it get when a door won't open or you can't close a door

Great question. I sold this truck in June of this year. Bought another super duty. In general I think it helped after a couple more visits to dealership. This winter was going to be another test. I have not had any issues with my new truck.

My guess is if Ford had a solution for the 2019's they would be rolling it out on the 2017 and 2018's. Good news is if you still have a month to wait then you should be good for quite a while. It seems like the issues are not appearing right away. It takes a few months for them to show up and start being problematic.

My 2018 f-350 lariat cc lb 6.7 doesn’t have these issues, so maybe it’s a supplier material issue ? Although my temperatures here are above freezing .

@@itsallgood7483 Temps have to be below freezing for the issues to show up. So if your truck is always above 32 degrees F you are luckier in more ways than one! :)

i bought a 2019 f250 and have not had any issues on anything what so ever except had one drivers door speaker distort so i just bought some 5 JL speakers and replaced them all my self simple job ,now the truck is perfect
