These much-maligned little engines are actually extremely fun to drive and quite powerful. Maintenance is key, however.

The biggest problem with the 2.0 before the fix on the 2020 and newer engines was the head gasket failing causing coolant to fill inside the cylinder causing catastrophic damage. The open block design gives little space for adhesion of the head gasket due to a slit for coolant to pass through, the new design uses a drilled through port allowing the head gasket to have more room to seal. Most of these engines are relatively reliable just a matter of time before the head gasket seal breaks and allows coolant to fill into one of the cylinders.

You didn’t even mention the coolant intrusion due to the poor block design.
