My 2010 Mazda 3 has this engine paired with a 6 speed manual, and it just hit 400,000 miles and still running strong. It has been a great car.

My 2016 escape with this 2.5 engine has almost 140,000 miles and is going strong and has never let me down!

Nor will it. It's better than the "EcoBoost" engines with their thin cylinder walls. Ford built these "Ecoboost" engines, added forced induction and higher compression but then made the cylinder walls thinner. Not a fan of them, you have "the correct" Ford engine. If I may suggest to please change the transmission fluid if you haven't yet. Many car companies like to say you never need to change the fluid. but hogwash. Every fluid had "viscosity breakdown" due to heat. So every fluid should be changed at some point in a car. At least around 100,000 miles. If you have 4 wheel drive then definitely change the transfer case fluid every 60,000 miles because they can become a problem otherwise. Again heat being the issue. You may want to consider an oil catch can. That too will help the longevity of the engine. Even though it isn't Direct Injection, any engine benefits from an oil catch can over the PCV valve. Which is kind of a joke really. Don't recirculate the blowback oil "fumes" through the air intake. Use the catch can and recirculate the oil. And a low temperature thermostat is also a good idea given how much plastic is used on engines today. Most people don't realize for the thermostat to open "completely" it is 10 degrees higher than the temperature listed for the thermostat. That number is simply when the thermostat begins to open. Thermostats with 160 degrees F, to 170 degrees F is a good temperature. Both NASCAR and Lexus use 160 degree F thermostats for their engines. And Lexus has the longest running engines in the business. And if it's good enough for NASCAR I figure it is good enough for my car. And they use oil catch cans and low temp thermostats. Did you know for NASCAR they use 7.5 Gallons of oil for the motors? Gallons not quarts! It's a dry sump system. It makes you kinda wonder about using just 5 - 6 quarts of oil for your motor. Or it does me. I bet if you updated a cars oil system to the likes of what NASACR uses, I bet that engine would go 500,000 miles or more. If it's good enough for NASCAR. lol May you enjoy many trouble-free miles with your Escape!

I have a 2017 fusion with this 2.5 engine, flawless. ive used Mobil 1 synthetic every 5-6,000 miles, currently at 96,000 miles on the car. The only issue has been that arm that attaches the gear shift to the transmission has slipped off numerous times, leaving me stuck in park. so i bought a replacement kit of little bushings that are super strong, i don't think itll ever come off now 👍🏼

The 2.5L has enough kick for me, no ecoboost for me, I'd rather have longevity.

More like Ecoboom. lol. The best Ecoboost engine is the 2.0 liter. And naturally the worst is the tiny 3 cylinder. The Ecoboost engines don't have thick enough cylinder walls to supposedly keep the engines small as possible. I think it's so they don't run as long. What's one of "the best" engines of all time? The Toyota 2JZ engine in the Supra. An inline 6 with some of the thickest cylinder walls ever designed and used in an ebgine. That's why you could add a turbo and get 400 HP out of a 6 cylinder and it still was reliable. Why isn't every engine built that way? Especially for new cars cost. We are not getting the best engineering or tech in cars today. That happened 15 - 20 years ago. Mileage hasn't seen a significant boost since the 1990's and fuel injection and OBD-II was implemented. If you think about it ABS, Airbags, Traction control all came out in the 90's too. A touchscreen placed on top of your dash (that can't even retract or fold away) where you have to take your eyes of the road to use is not the best technology. lol Take care and hope you get many miles with your vehicle. And I bet you will. (for a couple tips that will add tens of thousands of miles to any engine see my comment to the person before you. The only other thing I would add ising Slick 50 every summer and winter. You, and your engine will be happy for it. It's the only product I know that pays for itself because you'll see 2-3 better MPG when using it. It's a really good product, I've been using it for 20 years. Plus been working at Autozone enough years as well. For any rubber or plastic cleaner and protectant the best product by far is "303 Protectant". Yeah, it costs a little more, because it actually works. Plus, you also need less product because it is not as watered down either. It's good to use on your rubber hoses and belts as well for the engine. It literally lengthens the life of rubber components. take care.)

My 2008 escape has 194k on it. Engine valve cover was leaking when i bought it. Pulled the cover and cleane with 6 oz seafoam in the oil last 50 miles. Poured rest of can of seafoam in and idled at 1200 rpm for ten min. Changed oil. Valve noise and chattering was greatly reduced. Its still going strong today. Also you should replace the plastic coolant distibution piece on the top of the block. Mine wore out at about 150k and coolant blows out. Its only 40.00 part and can be done in an hour.

Not a fan of "electronic" steering assist. Did you see that steering column? Scary! Hydraulic power steering is a proven and relatively inexpensive design that actually gives you better feedback from the road. An example of - if it ain't broke don't fix it.

If your car is overheating and you can't figure out why the answer could be in the coolant you are using. If in doubt buy it from the dealership in the parts dept..

It’s not just the driver’s side axle seal that goes bad. Excessive play where the axle plugs into the transmission is the cause many times. Ford had a pretty well known bulletin on the issue.

I change the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles in my 2012 escape 2.5 with only Ford LV fluid. Engine oil and filter every 5,000 miles with Pennzoil 5-20 ultra full synthetic. Replaced (DIY) water pump all pulleys and serpentine belt at 75,000 as routine precautionary maintenance. 98,000 miles and fingers crossed. The 2012 2.5 Ford Escape aka the box is reliable.

REALLY annoying pronunciation of "Duratec" by the robo-voice. An Atkinson version of this engine is still used in hybrids in 2024 and beyond.
