We used to do electrical work for Jim Walter homes in the 80s all over Arkansas. The construction foreman was given a Ford F-150 every other year. It always had a 300 I6 with a 4speed granny low and a very high rear gear, probably 2.47 or 2.5. Granny was 6.6 to 1. He drove it all over the state, rarely under 80mph on the freeway. In fact to give a example of it’s grunt our work van that weighed over 7000 lbs loaded broke down and he towed us home on the end of a tow strap for well over a hour. Had absolutely no problem getting it going and at 1 point had it over 90 mph according to our speedo. Got great mileage as well. Figured out the engine was barely turning 2000 rpm at 85. Perfect engine for a work truck. Never saw him wear one out. I estimate he would put 100,000 miles a year on them.

Damn, that sounds shockingly less than awful! As a high school student from 2000-2004, as I’m sure you can imagine, these old 300-6 trucks were pretty common hand-me-downs among my classmates. Being hooligans, all of us made all of our cars and trucks louder, and great as they are, Ford big sixes are usually just about the raspiest, snarliest, worst sounding straight sixes in history (a lot of even V-sixes sound better). This isn’t bad! Does it have a header or something that makes it fundamentally sound different, or just that Flowmaster magic?

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.:-(
