Really great and informative, thank you so much. My stock 1973 two barrel 351c has a pan under the intake manifold. Is that pan required? What’s it for? Thanks!!!
@giantpune Жыл бұрын
The pan is to keep oil from splashing up on the bottom of the hot intake and burning. Whether or not you need the pan depends on if you have exhaust running through your intake. On each head, the middle hole is the exhaust cross over. There's a channel on the intake these mate with. Its part of the system to help the choke work. If you notice, the gaskets he uses in this video block those crossover holes. No hot gasses running through to heat up the carb, so no reason to use the turkey pan.

Lots of useful tips for a novice like me. Thanks again for enduring the heat.
@thclevoking4 жыл бұрын
rhett351 the turkey pan, or intake valley pan steel gasket is only meant to be used with cast iron intake manifolds. Alloy doesn’t have enough weight to pinch it and seal it up properly. If this was an iron intake I’d use the pan to keep oil off the bottom of the intake like they were intended. If you look at the bottom of an alloy intake you will see they designed them like the pan anyway to help oil splash and to keep the intake runners cool. Hope that helps, thanks for taking the time to reply!

I've heard mixed info on possibly a water port being there and just wanted to see if you knew anything about the 400. @@MikeJones-bj1cn if you can do some of the assembly yourself and have a lot of the good parts already it can be done as cheap as $5k if you only have a pretty basic clevo and need a lot of the aftermarket gear it adds up quick and could run around 10k pretty easily. We did pretty much exactly what you just did (except for a few top tips) However the space between the manifold/top of deck has a pretty big space to be honest and it has started leaking. I guess I should mention I'm running the 2v intake(hogged out abit) with a 500cfm. Should i try redoing and follow your tips or should I take intake in for a bit of a shave on the mating surface to get them closer first? Any tips for my dilemma?
