Good update on this spark plug change. My truck is an '06 F150 5.4 3v. Like you said...shops wanted $400 per change and then so much more if anything broke. It was crazy. So I followed FordTech Makuloco video, which at the time followed Ford's Tech Bulletin. Cold engine, use a ratchet. Broke 7 of 8. Four and eight absolutely would not come out with Lysle Tool. Towed to a shop which ended up being a little over $3000....rip off. Since then I have seen he has taken down that video. I bought more spark plugs so that I can change them out EVERY year---regardless how low the mileage. Use the anti-seize and use the ratchet. I have purchased an impact but am too chicken to use it. Maybe this time coming up I'll try it. I know it would save tons of time. Thanks for your confidence builder video. Simple and to the point. Jesus bless.

Great video. Well done. I have an 07 RS3 with 28k. Plugs have been changed at one point by Brenspeed. Still nervous about the breaking one or more. Your video made me feel a bit at ease in tackling this. Thanks

I did my 5.4 3 valve in a expedition, No problem at all. Just removed and toqurked at 30 ft. lbs. runs great.

Question: I've just bought an 06 Eddie Bauer and plan to do a plug change and throttle body cleaning. How much trouble did you have getting to the rear plug on the L&R bank? Thanks in advance for the response. Did you use anti-seize on the new plugs?

I'm by to do it on my F150 with 55k on it , I started notice some lack on acceleration and everything looks like the sparkplugs needs to be replaced .

I forget as it's been some years now but I think at the time I was right around 80,000 miles when I change them and they were definitely original.

I'm guessing it would be a bad idea to use any kind of swivel for cylinders 4&8? I kinda looked at the kind they make for impact sockets that don't swivel much, but afraid I'd ruin the threads. Any thoughts?

I’m about to change the spark plugs in my 05 GT, 140k with original spark plugs. Def feels scary to us an impact, hopefully I don’t break any!

Just make sure the engine is warm, use a low speed low powered impact, and you'll be just fine. If Ford tech Makuloco does it and is easily one of the most regarded techs out there for these Fords...that is certainly reassurance. At least it was for me. Good luck!

I have a 1/2 inch impact miluakee it’s a mid torque wrench, maybe just use the lower power setting ?

I would use a smaller impact than that. I think mine is a 3/8" compact Ryobi

I was telling my mechanic friend about changing my plugs, when I mentioned using the impact method he said that I would strip my heads doing that. he of course recommended the going slow with a hand ratchet, Were there any precautions or steps you took to make sure that doesn’t happen? I’m a bit nervous to try this method, but I def want to.

I used a low-powered 3/8 stubby impact and got the engine in each vehicle warm. You do not use this method on any other vehicle. I would strongly recommend watching Ford tech Makuloco video on this method. Many dealerships use this method. Unless someone who has a ton of knowledge is aware of the quirks of these three valve engines, most think using an impact is insane. That's why it is very important whoever touches the engine understands how they work and the advised methods. They do this in dealerships. Good luck

I get next to nothing in it and I've never had to empty it It's just a very very small amount of film. Really surprised me

If you break a rear plug thats hard to get at put a little carb cleaner in it let sit 1/2 hour and start the engine it will blow out

I did not spray anything I just did it with a hot engine and none broke. My truck I had them replaced back in 2010 so they weren't original but the mustang's definitely were. Some people spray some penetrant in... my concern with that is you have to watch out for hydro locking in the engine if you put too much in accidentally.

@@3VJohnny I washed my engine and water got inside each plug well. Truck was not drivable. Now it is misfiring/bucking when in OD and I apply light throttle. Pretty sure the plugs are the originals on my truck (‘07 5.4L 130k). Wish me luck!

@@3VJohnny how can I get the springs? The boots apparently don’t come with them. Also I discovered one aftermarket coil and rest were OEM. Considering replacing that one! Edit: I’ve already filed down all 8 connectors. All of them were corroded!

Just picked up a 04 Expedition. Not totally sure if it is a 2valve or 3. Going to operate on the premise that it is a 3.

You would have a two valve. They did not get the three valve in the expedition until 2005.

I used to have a 2007 F150 4.6 with the 2v it went up until 2010 for the 4.6.

Correct my brother had one too. There were no V6 options in 09-10. 4.6 2v was base engine, then 4.6 3V, 5.4 3V, 6.2 2V as option in raptor.

Ford does not recommend using an impact gun of any kind and especially on a hot engine, as doing so may risk cross threading or stripping the threads on both the spark plugs and cylinder heads... If you follow Ford's recommended TSB extraction procedure by using only hand tools on an engine which is at room temp, none will break, providing that you take your time... Needless to say, I have followed the Ford recommended extraction procedure on 2 different occasions and so far, no spark plugs have broken whatsoever... Anyhow, just my personal opinion!
