Excellent video. Saved me $450.00 on a top end rebuild that was already costing me a lot. I figured it out but I personally could have used more detail on the reassembly. Thanks for taking the time to upload this content. My lifters were frozen.

Bless you man...Blew head gaskets and also found cracked heads after teardown. I'm at $1900 in tools & parts for rering rebearing along with the cost of new Kings heads. Chose to pull engine for a complete clean due to the oil gunk & sludge. Everything needs looked at as lifters look OK but will follow your example to get em clean. BIG THANKS

Thank you for the content. I have harvested two used sets from 1st gen explorers. i'll take the best 18, after initial inspection (want some spares) disassemble, clean, then have them cryo treated and micro-polished. i know its beyond overkill and pricey...but it'll all be done right and spotless. overall, the cost per unit won't be much more than brand new oem lifters.

good morning friend, i have a ford ranger 4.0 v6 ohc 1995, i'm from brazil, but the van is american, i have a noise problem with hydraulic tappets, can you tell me if i do this cleaning will the hydraulic tappets return to normal operation? or do i need to replace with new ones?
@jdez424 жыл бұрын
More than likely its the rockers and pushrods,not the lifters...pull the valve covers,pull the 3 bolts holding the rockers on and inspect them..

What would cause a lifter to lose its prime over night? 🤔

Very helpful vid. You don't see too many like this. I plan on rebuilding my ohv as it's a 2000 and hasn't had anything changed but the gaskets. It still fires up and doesn't burn any fluids, but I want to rebuild it for a supercharger within the next few years. I'm not sure where to start though.

Just to keep the plunger from popping before installation and to help keep oil around the pushrod
@jdez426 жыл бұрын
@Jeremy 77 yea it will run fine..make sure its deflated before installing it and pushrod sits on it properly

@Jeremy 77 yea in the lifter..otherwise the top plunger will want to pop out on you

If you did have to replace with new lifters, dont they say youre supposed to put a new camshaft as well or not neccessarily.

if I put flat to piston in mine will the valves hit or will it be ok
@jdez427 жыл бұрын
Josh Mclarty flat tops from a sohc with any OHV head will net to much compression for pump gas..90-94tm pistons with 95-98tm heads nets you 10:1 ...95-98tm pistons with 90-94tm heads net you 8:1...sohc flat tops with 95-98tm heads nets you over 12:1...sohc pistons with 90-94tm heads nets you 11:1..

@@jdez42 no my old heads I just took off have 3 cracks between the valves on cylinders 1,4 and 6. Truck ran fine but if you hooked a load up to it it was totally gutless. Laying a strait edge over the valves none of them are flat.

Motor has 235k on it I was just watching your lifter rebuild video deciding whether to do that to mine or not mess with it. Have new heads coming this week from promaxx.Hoping it picks up some power with the new heads.
@jdez424 жыл бұрын
Just means the tips were worn or the seats or valve edge was worn..the lifter can make up alot but once the rockers and pushrods wear out its too much..if a 90-94 id suggest you get 98tm heads,it will increase compression to 10:1
@JeffAMay4 жыл бұрын
@@jdez42 the truck is a 2000 and has 235k on it. It's ran fine since I had it and never overheated but it's always felt gutless like it was worn out and I'm guessing the heads were already cracked when I got the truck. I bought new heads from promaxx and new rockers/pushrods also.I have seen lifters for it for less than $100 on amazon but I'm not sure what kinda quality those would be..I'm gonna do a home port and polish on the intake and the heads before I put them back on.
@jdez428 жыл бұрын
and fyi..thise heads have been to a machine shop,have had a valve job and NEW valves installed. .also new pushrods and rockers were used..this is simply to show how to clean a lifter that gets clogged which this motor is famous for..nothing is wrong with the lifter other than its a dead end when it comes to oil path and gets clogged..lifters run $30+ a PIECE for this motor when nothing normally is wrong other than clogged...reusing parts that are not broken is not the wrong way or a band aid..sorry go waste your money elsewhere
