is a miss different from a misfire? i was driving a 99 park avenue 3.8L v6 thru the appalachian hils yesterday and going up hill at 55mph, i would get a recurring shudder every 20-30 seconds where the car decelerated markedly for a beat like a giant was punching it in the nose. I think a miss would cause a noticeable pause, but this was more severe. Could this be predetonation during the compression stroke actually hammering the drivetrain rather than a simple miss? I added octane booster to my tank for the return trip and that reduced the occurrence markedly but it did not disappear.
