@@jonmarshall272 the dough is kinda a issue ngl but I've been thinking of trying to bulletproof it. fresh oil cooler coated delipped pistons, new rocket arms, head studs and so on. but is it worth doin? like would my truck run reliably after that?

@@jordangiesbrecht05 depends how far your so on is on the build list, driving habits, maintenance schedule, hp level etc. I would never tell someone whos on a budget to rely on a 6.4L

I don’t think it’s just in the 6.4. It’s all of them. They smash the engines in the vehicles and pretty much make them damn near impossible to work in without tearing half the vehicles apart. Try working on mini excavators or skidsteers. Whata bloody mess

For those who struggle with which way to loosen a fan clutch nut. Always turn the nut loose the same way the fan turns when the the engine is running. All brands…all applications. Disclaimer…turn the engine off first.

All the dealers were swamped with these engines come 2011-2012 and probably up to 2016…it’s pretty bad when you hardly ever see those engines come through your door because the very large majority of them have blown up!!..

Question - I am unfortunate to own a 6.4 with 68K miles on it. I think the fan clutch may be going out on it.. Every once in a while I get this hi pitch noise that sound like a jet engine, accompanied by loss of power from engine. Usually when under load of towing up hill, but sometimes close to start up. would like to hear your thoughts.

Ford engineering means you have to drop the engine to change a headlite. Requires special Ford tools/ fasteners as well..

Very helpful tip . also,As a part time mechanic myself,the 6.4 is indeed not very much fun to work on when you’ve got a bad piston at 400k ,however,I much rather work on 15 6.4s a day than I would 1 6.7 a week ,,I own a 6.4 ,never had an issue 208k miles,,tunes deletes and normal maintenance.

Did that on my first attempt of replacing my water pump and fan clutch took me couple hours no idea why people moan about it so much I've had other engines and vehicles fight me far harder then it has ever.

Every truck/car brand in the world if they screwed up and came out with a motor that had a ton of problems The fans would have called it out for what it was. Them ford diesel guys will say it was a great motor but you only had to put 5 to 10 k of mods Into it off the showroom floor just to make it reliable and then turn around and say it was the best motor ever made😂 hell I think any crappy motor with that many modifications would probably work better afterwards haha
