So the idea of filling the ruts with gravel sounded great at the time. That is until I got back out there and it was even more wet. After this video though, the road will now dry smooth.... PS I’ve been told this tractor is a 2N, an 8N and a mixture of both. So I just call in a 9n... close enough, right? Filmed by Walter Mallard. @lesahanners50573 жыл бұрын
Some of the first roads laid through wet area's out here in the West were known as corduroy roads. They were built by placing logs across the road and putting rock in between. You can imagine how bumpy they were, but they skidded logs on them really well. When we have mucky places, like your road, we first lay down a heavy layer of larger base rock to raise the road above the water, making a hump in the center to allow the water to drain off to the sides, then put down the more expensive gravel when we can afford it. We have miles of back roads done in this way, that have never been graveled, but we also have a lot of natural deposits of shale, which you may not have available. Road building can sure be a headache with mucky clay soils and low lying wet area's, especially if you have lots of rain. I wish you all the best in your road building efforts Robert. It is certainly a challenge.

This may be a stupid idea but the logging companies up north used to put down corduroy roads over areas too sandy or mucky for their trucks to go over. This reminds me my grandpa talked about building "corduroy roads" when his father bought a marshy property to farm. You have lots of free material for it in the woody vines and lay them across the road maybe a few inches wider than your wheel base and it will help prevent the ruts and compaction.

Oh, Robert. I'm sure those bags of pretty rock were Really expensive! 😞 Back in the the day, my dad would take a dump truck and get a load of gravel from the gravel pit. They used it to fill or to raise the elevation of an area. That would keep that road dry. Maybe you could ask around (city/county road dist., developers, landscapers) for a less expensive source of fill gravel. I know there will always be challenges. Most of the curse words I learned were from hearing my dad's phone conversations.☺️ I know you'll find a way to got 'er done. 💜🤗
