Ford Blower Motor Resistor in a Mercedes?!

A brief overview of my blower fan modifications on my Mercedes W124. I installed a Ford blower motor resistor since it's a fraction of the cost of an original replacement and gives me 4 fan speeds instead of the original 2 speeds. This is all shown on my 1989 Mercedes Benz 300 CE.

Hello I have a 1987 300d that normally runs at 85c bot as soon as you run ac it runs at 100c or above. And cooling fan doesn't kick in till 110c . Do you know of a way to make the fan come on earlier. I am considering getting rid of the clutch fan and run a electric cooling fan but don't know what would be a good fan to run. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. Robert

I would retain the clutch fan, although they rob a lot of horsepower very few electric fans will compete with them. I literally have 3 electric fans on my massive radiator to keep my car running cool in traffic. I know there is a solution for getting that fan to kick on sooner, I follow the channel MMWA and I specifically recall him talking about this but I can’t completely recall the solution or which video it was. If I have a chance I will try to search and get back to you.

Use the power wire to compressor to turn on a heavy duty relay that runs a larger fused wire from battery to aux fan, that way it turns on when compressor clutch receives power. The larger wire, around 4 gauge, and at least a 30 amp fuse for main power to fan, use relay on ground wire to complete circuit to fan. There are kits to install a temp sensor in radiator hose that can give added protection of cooling system too, by using the ground side circuit so either relay or temp sensor can turn on fan.
