Thanks Nick. I find these C6 videos particularly useful. Appreciate you giving details as you tear down as opposed to just zipping things apart as I see some of the other transmission channels do.

I've been waiting for this video. I have a police C6, 3 speed. That has lost 2nd gear.. It's still all original, I'd like to keep it that way. 78 Grand Marquis.

Nick your lucky to have work I've been searching for a job for weeks

Thanks, Zac...Sorry to hear you've been searching and unable to find anything. This business is feast or famine, in my own personal experience...A bunch of transmissions will come in the door all at once then nothing for a couple weeks at a time...

I did the C6 in my truck back in June. All original trans, 253,000 miles on it. Still worked fine when I rebuilt it but it was getting time so I figured I'd just do it while I was doing the engine anyways, it was starting to leak from every gasket and seal slowly, the front pump outer O ring was about to start puking and the pump gasket was petrified. The only issues I found in mine were the governor was a bit gummed up and the forward clutches had some signs of heat but still had friction material. My front pump only showed a tad of wear on the bluing on one small spot but looked great other than that. I put the TCI low drag kit in it when I did the job. When I bought the truck 12 years ago, shortly after I put a shift kit in it, found the 1-2? or 2-3 shift accumulator had a broken spring I can't remember which but there was a fair amount of clutch material in the pan and the servo piston was hard as a rock and would just fall right out of the servo housing. Corrected those issues and it worked great until I took it out of service. I was pretty surprised overall how good the thing looked after all those years and miles. Back up and working better than ever.

Good deal, Matt. Sounds like you got it set up well. Broken accumulator springs are common in those units - I see the springs broken often, relatively speaking.

@@nickstransmissions One thing I will say though, this is the second C6 I have done - both with exactly the same shift kit calibrations. The first one, which is a 1968 C6 with a D code intermediate servo and running type F fluid (same Raybestos green high energy clutches in both) that transmission has a significantly nicer crisp firm shift in every gear than the one in my truck which is running DEX III/ Mercon and has a N code servo. You think the biggest difference is the servo or the fluid? Both shift nice, but the older one I much prefer the shift feel of that one.

I recently purchased a 1979 Lincoln Mark V Cartier Coupe with 21,655 miles that has been parked for 35+ years. I had the transmission fluid flushed because it was oxidized from sitting. Not burned just black. Does my Lincoln have the same C6 transmission and is the filter difficult to change now that the fluid has been flushed?
@nickstransmissions22 күн бұрын
Hi Jose, thanks for watching..filter is easy to change...remove the 3/8 and 5/16 bolts holding it in place then reinstall the new filter...Install and torque the 5/16" bolts to 45 inch lbs and the 3/8" bolts that go through the filter to 100 inch lbs.
