How did you fix the p1299

Do you replace the engine computer to fix the p1299 code?

I think he did a pcm reflash. I'm getting p1299 even after replacing the coolant temperature sensor and clearing it. I'm hoping this procedure will resolve it.

I had to replace the coolant level sensor and not the coolant temperature sensor. It's an expensive device. Before you go this way, first ensure that there's water in the coolant level sensor and clear the error codes with a scanner. If it persists, replace the coolant temperature sensor and do the reset. Last resort will be to replace the coolant level sensor.

@@bbmatscurious to what car you have? It’s popping up on my 2014 fiesta st after replacing the trans and then the clutch pedal. Also did yoou take it to ford to get reset? My obd2 scanner isn’t clearing it’s saying it’s a permanent code

@@justzzack hello. I have a Ford Kuga 2, 2013 1.6. The coolant level sensor is connected directly to the coolant reservoir. I don't think they were installed in the Fiestas. Your issue might be a coolant temperature sensor or a cylinder head sensor. Try to research which one is installed in your specific model. Might also just be wire connection issues. All the best.

Hi i have focus showung temp -41 thqn after few minutes no communication with ecu

The P1299 code is Cylinder HEAD Overtemp. Caused by a faulty Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) sensor...NORMALLY. NOTHING TO DO WITH COOLANT. The CHT sensor gives an estimated (NOT actual) reading to the ECU, and should the thermistor in the senor degrade then this value is incorrect and the ECU WILL protect the engine. Normally the symptoms will not show until the engine reaches normal operating temperature depending on outside weather conditions this will be 5 to 10 minutes of running, these are... 1. Dashboard warning, advising you that the Engine is overheating and to stop when safe to do so. 2. Engine warning light (and bings). 3. Engine temperature gauge pegs itself at full range (HOT) and cooling fan comes on in high mode. 4. Sudden drop in power, possibility of stalling and certainly no chance of getting up a hill. This is Fords engine cooling strategy where it cuts fuel to alternating cylinders so that cool air is pumped through to reduce internal temps in an attempt to save the engine. If you use a code reader whilst this condition is active and reset the code, then the car WILL return to normal, BUT within 10 seconds it WILL trigger the code again with all the symptoms. Check coolant level, if engine is hot be cautious as the cap is pressurised and the coolant is HOT, a little hiss is normal, IF there is a sudden rise in coolant level when you release the cap then there is other issues beyond just the CHT sensor, probably head gasket or water pump related. To repair this condition, you do not need to flash (reprogram) the ECU. Simply replace the CHT sensor (NOT coolant temp sensor), though it is advisable to replace both and cost is negligible for a CT sensor (~$15) with you already having access to it whilst replacing the CHT.
