i got a new wrench and torqued all 8 plugs to 18 ft lbs instead of 13 not knowing how to read the increments, have had no issues so far, and it's nice to know they wont be getting loose and popping out since theyre a tad tighter. Nickel plated plugs (motorcraft) don't need anti seize since they are nickel plated, it's actually bad to use it sometimes since lubrication can lead to overtorquing.

Sears as well as most tool salespeople have U-joint tupe deep 5/8" swivel sockets good for this job. The craftsman one has a magnet to hold the plug which is better then a rubber ring that can cause the socket to stick inside the plug bore and be a PITA to remove. At sears the tool is pretty cheap and comes in 2 extension lengths. They also sell 1/4" drive U-joint sockets in metric, unsure if they have 7mm, but probably do. chasing down leaks can be as difficult as chasing down electrical problems. The most likely causes in the rear would be the door seals or an improperly sealed repair where they had police equipment, or possibly behind the door "bump guard" (there is a factory hole behind it). @@blessedjuggernaut my 2 Vics have about 4800 idle hours (2008) and 1500 idle hours (2010). Both run great. As long as you keep up with maintenance you shouldn't have any problems. Ford says approximately 33 miles per idle hour, so your engine could be argued to have an additional 210k miles on it. I hear of folks all the time getting more than 500k miles out of their Vic - and that's miles, not idle hours. These cars were made to be able to safely idle for long periods.
@blessedjuggernaut3 жыл бұрын
@@WJHandyDad I’ve heard the idle hour theory before. Ironically I’ve watched my hours go up while doing 60mph in drive. Also worked in DOT trucks with over 15,000-25,000 *operating* hours on them. Most of them were diesel. Some were gas. All of them including CVPIs and all work vehicles with operating hour meters calculate total engine run time, and not idle hours. Being in park or neutral doesn’t have anything to do with it. Also idling equating to mileage is a theory at best. Does idling a lot effect the engine? Yes but as long as its not running hot it really shouldn’t be an issue. In the long haul, like you said I’ve read about some CVPIs turned taxis get over 400k miles on them regardless of “idle” in reality operating hours. I just know my 2011 does leak a drop or burn of fluid period and it’s a hoss. I raced a 454 Monte the other night. I got my ass handed to me but I kept up with him. I let off at 100mph because I had a pending speeding ticket in my glove box. Car runs like a Mustang even with old plugs and coil packs. Not like a beater with 300,000 miles on it. Not trying to be a smarty pants. Just letting you know what I’ve learned. Thanks either way for you input. The info about the plug torque really helped me. what did you torque your plugs to? I have a 2009 P71 I'm doing this week...
@WJHandyDad7 жыл бұрын
I did 13 ft-lb the first time. One plug blew out (the other 7 were still perfectly snug). But I re-did them all and did 15 ft-lb. So far, so good!

Take them to 18-20 ft-lb. You will never have a problem.

I have an 08 Grand Marquis with the Flex fuel...would it make a difference if I used the SP493 instead of the SP405..would it help with fuel economy or would it make it worse...What do you think...I am gettng ready to Change the plugs and Coil packs..want to use factory plugs and using accell coilpacks...Thanks
@WJHandyDad5 жыл бұрын
I doubt you'd see enough difference to justify changing from the factory spec but you could technically run them as long as you always ran regular gas and not e85
@HarryHov6 жыл бұрын
Also would you recommend replacing the coil packs too?
@WJHandyDad6 жыл бұрын
I did after I blew a "gas only" plug. Certainly if it's in your budget, I'd replace the coil packs too

Leaving the negative cable off will NOT reset the computer on crown Vics or any other ford for that matter the keep alive memory is in place for a reason u have to drain the capacitors in the computer by touching the ground with the Positive not attached to the battery for a minute or so DO NOT TOUCH the CABLES TOGETHER WHEN THE BATTERY is HOOKED UP only when cables or off the battery hold them together for 1 minute and that properly resets the computers.....

Yes it will, I have an 07 P71 and do it after any repairs.
@SilverBullet93GT3 жыл бұрын
uhm, i concur, both negative and positive have to be removed from battery and then touched together up to 10 min whenever you want to reset computer or work on any airbag related components. See Ford tech Makulko on YT

I did 13 ft-lb the first go and lost a plug within about 2 months. I re-did them all to 15 ft-lb and no problems since

Just use the boot to pull plug out if you have to

I have the same engine config. Did you have to loosen or remove the fuel rail for accessibility to any of the plugs?? TIA!
@WJHandyDad7 жыл бұрын
I was able to get to all of mine just using socket extensions
