Ford Ecoboost 1.0 engine with a warped head and blown head gasket - in this video the head is removed without taking off the timing cover or the timing belt, the warped head is DIY skimmed and then everything re-assembled to full working order. No special tools required!
Purists may be offended by the concept of not replacing the timing belt but if you do it this way and your timing belt is in good condition, you can avoid a lot of work and the need for expensive tools. I skimmed the head using the sandpaper-on-glass method which worked well and also saved a load of hassle. Minimal parts cost and you can probably do it in a weekend or two if you push on with it. It took me three months with short bursts of activity.
