Cleaning out old grease and lubricating tracks on Ford Edge Vista Roof

Honestly....the main thing that slows down these roofs is the outside slides. I clean them with Brake Cleaner....stick the little straw tube in and blast the outer tracks clean. Give them a few minutes to dry, then lube them and it speeds them up tremendously. I've gotten to the point that I don't usually even bother with the inner part anymore.

Bad grease choice. I'm asking for a mess again. On my 2013 MKX I use Dry Teflon lube. No grease dirty crud. Your grease is a dirt magnet. My glass closes in 4.5 seconds. Geez.

Thanks for the video. I am getting ready to tackle my 2013 sunroof and needed to see what and how to clean it and your video was very helpful.

Idk if I was suppose to do it like this, but w40 along the tracks did the job done. Good thing because I was desperate with rain in the forecast and 40 degree weather in the forecast this week.

Im sure it will be fine. But dont use NH it regularly because it will build up and collect dirt. It can also break down plastics and rubber.

Very informational video. What was the reason you decided to start cleaning your vista sun roof? Was it starting to move extremely slow? Mine is and I wonder if this is the issue

+Robert Heimbueger Mine was super slow then decided not to close one day while I was on the highway. So I did this and it worked great. Even though the roof worked awesome, I did end up getting the motor replaced under factory warranty right after this video because the motor was extremely loud. They said it was probably due to the stress of not being properly lubed.

Nice video. Hopefully the tweezers scrapping the the track aren't creating scratches that will cause drag. Maybe wooden skewers would be better.

Yeah i dont let the metal scratch the tracks.

Hey you forgot the rear rails? Not fully cleaned !!!!! Geez.

I did everything the video shows. Now my sunroof rattles. Before it never made a noise. How do you stop the rattle?
@andrecoelho8056 жыл бұрын
Pablo Jose Maybe you moved something? Lubricating it wouldnt cause a rattle. More than likely something is broken or loose.

I have a 2013 Edge SEL with the vista roof. The passenger front floor is getting wet and not sure if it is from rain or some other mechanical drain problem. Do you have any videos showing how to unclog and drain any roof plugs? Not sure if this is the problem but thought I would start there.
@SealofPerfection4 жыл бұрын
Edge doesn't have sunroof drains. It's a totally different type of roof. You probably have a leak through the cowl. Or "had", as I hope you've fixed it by now

dielectric grease is not a lube it is made for electrical connections,
@SealofPerfection4 жыл бұрын
Correct. Silicone paste is much better.

I read somewhere that the Vista systems isn't supposed to be lubed. Presumably this is because lube attracts dirt which will clog up the rails. Did you ever just clean up the rails and see how well it works? Considering how many rails (especially the rear ones on the roof) are open to the elements it would make sense that the system isn't supposed to be lubed. Seems odd but makes sense in a way...
@andrecoelho8058 жыл бұрын
+Peter Byrne They do lube it on the inside. If you look at the tracks you'll see the original lube. The outside tracks use silicone lube so they don't attract dirt.
