Hello double wide. I had a few different codes.system too lean for Bank 1 and 2 cylinder 1 and 3 had a misfire detected Cadillac system efficiency below threshold bank1 was a another, so I put some new coil packs on new spark plugs, today I change the EGR valve sensor and hose, but when I rev my engineup and still doesn't seem like it's got VA power and I'm wondering if it might be my O2 sensors and never been changed I didn't get no code for that and I'm just wondering what you think about that? I had this same issue. Auto Zone checked it and suggested the EGR sensor was the problem. I purchased one, cost about $74.00. Once I started removing the old one I noticed the vacuum line had cracked ( Big Hole in the larger hose). I went ahead and changed the EGR sensor piece and replaced the vacuum lines. I would suggest checking the rubbers vacuum lines first, both are about 8 inches and go down from the EGR sensor to 2 metal vacuum lines. Good Luck!

That code you mentioned is P1406 - I took your advice and stopped by Auto Zone as well" and also purchased the part that was in stock (Auto Zone people there were very helpful) I did exactly what you showed in your video here"" ... I believe it is right where the wire connector ties into the back of the control panel. I found pin 1 and 2 had a loose solder joint. I resoldered all of the pins where the connector ties in and it fixed my problem for 2 years, so far. Good Luck

Cheryl Dulin I have a 1999 4.6 liter Ford Expedition. What model is yours. Also on my research.. there is a 5 volt reference on some. If that's wrong this system won't work. I found it's made to prevent misfires.

If the engine runs rough at idle, disconnect the vacuum hose to the EGR. If the idle smooths, it's NOT the EGR valve, it's upstream. If you get vacuum to the EGR, it's not the EGR solenoid. It's a regulator sensor or charcoal canister purge valve.

Some vehicles do nothing by unhooking the EGR hose because the egr doesn't do anything until about 2000 rpms are more put vacuum on the egr at idle if it dies down egr valve is good

That was what is wrong with mine too. Ive tried everything and I got on the web and started reading up on the DPFE. So, I went out and unhooked the vacuum line from mine and drove it down the road. It ran great again. Thanks for the video!

I kept replacing both egr and the dpfe, and the check engine light comes back on few months later. I heard it's a common problem with the 4.6l Ford engines.

You were talking about the mileage indicator light having an issue with staying on, that was a common issue even with the 1999 models. With that in mind I am sure it is quite possibly an issue with the 1999-2003 models. I had those same cold solder connections soldered back together on my pick-up digital odometer and since then it has worked perfectly. I am also having that same code and I have a new DPFE Sensor ready to go in but with me in a wheelchair a good bit of the time due to a spinal crush injury years back I'm not sure I can get it done by myself. I'm still going to try to get the new sensor installed. I also replaced my EGR Valve; however, when I pulled it off and went to cleaning it out it looked pretty bad so I just replaced it to make sure. What bothers me the most is that if I end up replacing both DPFE sensors, then since I replaced the bad vacuum lines as well, and that same code pops back up then the only other thing left to my knowledge would be those tiny holes from the EGR system on the inside top of the throttle body. I am really hoping I don't have to go down that road of having to pull the throttle body and then somehow clean out those two holes.

If you dpfe sensor came on, could it be that there is carbon buildup either in the vacuum lines or in the egr tube they connect to ? I have a old Ford also and I believe that when the truck gets that old , it is likely to be all gummed up with carbon in the entire egr system. So you need to remove the egr valve, the egr pipe, the vacuum lines, and possibly the intake manifold and clean them out.

My 97 F-150 had the same code but the difference is that i have a 4.2 V6. The DPFE or EGR vavle position sensor as some call it, is located on the left hand side of the throttle body. easiest fix i've ever done to it. now its pulling a H02s21 low circut response. i have a feeling that its just the Oxygen sensor on bank 2 first sensor.

usually on fords if you have a p0401 insufficient egr flow and both a p0101 fuel lean bank 1 and p0102 fuel lean bank to according to the ford technical bulletin forget which one it is either a clogged egr port on the throttle body egr valve or a bad delta pressure feedback sensor. In the video the so called egr sensor he pointed to is actually the vacuum controlled egr valve. The other so called sensor is not a sensor it is the egr valve control solenoid which controls the egr vacuum it gets its information from the dpfe sensor via the pcm A bad pcm on the newer fords can cause the digital odometer to flicker as well as a short. A good test of the egr system and valve is to take of the vacuum line from the valve and contact a hand held vacuum pump and with the engine running and apply a vacuum to it this will open the egr valve and cause the engine to sputter and stall which means the egr valve and system is ok.

it is possible to make this whole system blind. Just remove 2 hoses from DPFE and make it blind. Remove hose from EGR valve and connect it to the DPFE to this place where was a smaller hose before.

I finally took it to Firestone..... the number 23 fuse was missing, which I removed and put it back in the wrong slot. They figured that out. Also, it needed a number 4 coil pack, 7 coil boots, 7 spark plugs. I've actually driving it now and will be getting all if that fixed here soon. Thanks alot for responding. 😉😉😉😉

You need to clean out both rubber hoses and connections to the EGR metal tube. Carbon builds up especially in the small tube, clean both tubes going to the EGR. Replace rubber hoses going to DPFE sensor. Buy new sensor & install, you should not have check engine light. Last thing EGR valve could be clogged or needs replacement. Use brake cleaner to clean out all hoses and connections, and EGR valve.

For me shuddering at idle was a failing coil pack that didn't throw a code. If you have had any coil pack code at all replace the entire set of 8. Otherwise you will be doing the job twice.

Check for vacuum at 1000 RPM'S. There should be vacuum. There shouldn't be vacuum at idle. Get a Action CP9680 code tester. It checks LIVE, record, graphing, emissions readiness test, oxygen sensor tests, transmission codes, ABS, SRS, and MORE! It comes in a black pouch. Get 4 aaa batteries, not included, for under the rear cover. It retains the memory of test results. Get a USB cable to update it. EBAY has it.

I was wondering if you could do a video on them vacuum lines? I bought a 99 f150 with the 5.4 the previous owner Had the motor replaced and they didn't put lines back on right. I'm not getting vacuum to the 4x4 and I have the p0401 code

You can't reverse vacuum lines on the DPFE, they're different sizes. I'm not sure about your 4x4 problem though. Generally with vacuum lines you can get em by eye like routing spark plug wires, they shouldn't have a lot of tension in them, but not a huge amount of slack either, just gotta use your best judgement

So I got a couple codes system too lean bank 1 &Bank 2, misfire cylinder 1 3 detected and Cadillac system efficiency below threshold, bank 1 so I first started out changing the spark, and coil packs, today I change the EGR valve sensorlook like somebody superglued the hose onto the plastic piece that was broken, but it seems like I still don't have the v8 power, if I rev my engine up it definitely sounds a lot better than it didbut there is a time when it acts like it doesn't want to wrap up all the way and I'm starting to lean toward my O2 sensors, anyone else ever dealt with this?

I’ve also got the system lean codes. I’ve replaced spark plugs and wires, pcv valve, idle air control valve, MAF, and the upstream exhaust O2 sensors. The lean codes keep popping up. The O2 sensors aren’t terribly difficult to replace but they may be rusted on pretty bad, just keep blasting them with penetrating oil and you can muscle them out. There’s not much room to get a wrench in but I didn’t have to remove anything to get them out. I snipped the wire on the old sensors so I could get a wrench around them.

Omar A Avila You do not need glue. If the hose won't stay it has probably been stretch and lost some elasticity because of wear. Replace the hose or I suppose you could put a very small clamp on it. Glue would clog the sensor. If you put a clamp on don't crush the housing.

Kinda have the same problem with my 01 vic accept it takes throttle good under load, it only hesitates while cruising around 40 Mph lightly giving it gas like when coming out of a curve sometimes, have put 40k on it doing that so its not my tranny...did u ever figure ur problem out...?

CaMoTiMe got same problem on my mercedes e220 cdi w210 and next thing what I am going to change is Pressure vacuum solenoid they call it here in UK. Try to disconnect the pipes from that pressure sensor or DPFE thing like this guy here said and see if its any difference in idle as mine is ok when I disconnect pressure vacuum solenoid pipe.

Gap your plugs, make sure you have no vacuum leaks. The hoses that have extra lenth cut off the end. The rest add a couple rounds of tape to the male side. Clean alll electrical connections.

The Service Engine light doesn't just automatically turn itself off like that......the computer needs to run thru some drive cycles (100 miles) before it turns the light off OR the light has to be manually turned off with a scanner of some sort.......'the battery must have been disconnected while this guy was doing his repairs.

I was thinking the same thing. Slow working slow fucker. I just watched to see the hose connected to this sensor go to the egr off pipe nipples. An he couldn't even do that. I'm having the same issues, I've had the throttle body cleaned, I've had the EGR valve replaced. This didn't help at all, truck still not excellerating. Check engine light still on and also the overdrive light is flashing on the handle. Sure wish I could talk to you. Is that possible, maybe even by email if possible. I'm already losing money.
