I had this with a mates 07 Focus with 29k on clock. Sometimes it would start others it was dead Ford looked at it and wanted 2k to start replacing ECUs and ignition. After a google search i reflowed the plugs on Instrument panel and car has been good to this day and that was 4/5 years ago.

Ford will and must be aware of this it's obviously cheap and tacky quality solder and circuitry. Happens across the range ok if you know how to rectify it or someone who does. Had the same issue 2010 Focus 1.6 TDCI nightmare if left too long eventually you'll end up with a none runner? Some places quote bank sort code prices just a blatant rip off and pure greed!

@1:45 I could identify 5 cold solder joints! Nice close-up! The four black diodes to the left, often heat up and lift off the board...(another COMMON problem on MANY cars) Thanks for sharing Leon!

dry joints on these boards is a common problem these days as these boards are mad so fast by machines I for 1 wish they would come up with a different way or go back to the old days thanks for the video

These are called dry joints in the trade, and lead free solder if the reason they crack,Lead free solder and pure tin finishes on component leads can cause problems with fractured joints. I is best to remove lead free with de soldering braid or a sucker then replace with lead solder.

All due to the use of lead free solder. It's a problem on all pub's used in environments where vibration present ,ie boilers , washing machines etc.

I've had this "Engine Malfunction" message on my 2009 2L petrol Focus CC. No loss of power or any warning lights at all, just the message but my brake lights were not working and it turned out to be a faulty brake light switch (there are 2 of these behind the brake pedal). This has happened twice in the last 5 years.

A very common problem,on ABS modules it is mainly the power supply solder joints.

Yes, got to be wary of garages telling you the whole ABS unit needs replacing or sent off to some mysterious company for refurbishment

I have just put up a video as well about a Ford focus 2007 2.0 Diesel. Ford are trolling us, lol. I had this problem on my car as well. Cold soldering joints seem to be the thing when the car is more than 10 years old.

had an 08 sold to my brother, never had this. just a problem with the turbo and throttle would stop responding. call me ignorand but why would the imobiliser kick in with new clocks, surely all they do is tell you is speed/rpm fuel and temp and distance
