Changing your oil is a great way to get to know your car and start learning how easy and cheap it is to do your own maintenance and repairs. If you are not confident, find someone you trust to help you get started. It will cost some upfront to buy the tools but you will make it up 1000 fold over the years. I was probably 21 when I started changing mine, been doing it for over 30 years. I also learned to fix everything else, all car repairs, home repairs, improvements. I've saved hundreds of thousands over the years by not paying pro's and not having to replace cars. What is a crisis for most is for me a minor inconvenience to be addressed on a Saturday afternoon. DIY shall set you free.

I was shopping around to get my oil changed and decided I’m done paying others to do this job. Been changing oil on my motorcycles since I was a kid. Just as I guessed this is just as easy, thanks bud. Got all I need and some Lucas high mileage oil stabilizer for 30 less than what the shops would charge. Future changes will be faster and less than half ! 💪

Thank u sooo much for this video!!!! First timer here and my brother said he'd help but I really wanted to learn how to do it by myself and not feel so useless. Even my parents were stunned and surprised that I was able to do it by myself. I recorded a video of me doing it and sent it to my brother...he was surprised too but congratulated me lol car things are out of this world until u actually muster up the courage to try. Thank u so much again!!!!!! I 1000% appreciate ur effort to change the oil AND record 👍💯💪

One thing I learned is do your filter first. No worries about dropping it in a full oil pan and be splashing everywhere. Also if it's vertical like this or somewhat at an angle, pre-fill with clean oil to reduce the time it's running without oil pressure. It minimal but it doesn't hurt. I use full synthetic and keep it changed under 5000 miles, 3000 if turbo. My cars go 300K, I have never had an oil related engine problem. The car wears out but the engine runs like new.

I’m getting ready to change the oil for a family member. I think that Escape is the V6 model, though. Other videos I’ve seen show the oil pan and filter in a different place. I don’t want to drain the transmission fluid by mistake. The owners manual I saw online (for 2012) said 5.3 quarts for a filter change on the inline 4. V6 is 6.0 quarts. Maybe some of the dirty oil stays behind?
@matt-diy Жыл бұрын
Sometimes it’s possible it varies some, but you can always put in a bit less, run the car a few minutes, and then check on the dipstick.

Chilton Ford Escape Manual says 4.5qts for 4cyl so I was a bit surprised that the whole flask fit there in this video.

Hi Matt, is lifting/jacking car up required to do this job or is it optional? I don’t have access to one, and I have a 2010 escape
@matt-diyАй бұрын
I can’t quite remember if there is enough room without one. I always use ramps to give me some extra space but if you can fit underneath then there is no issue doing it that way!

I just picked up a 2012 4 cyl, 2wd. I noticed your coolant looks yellow, mine is pink? Any thoughts? Also, have you done a transmission drain and fill, would like to do that too. Thanks for the video!
@matt-diy6 ай бұрын
Yes! I have a video on the transmission on my channel! You might just have a different type but as far as I know standard yellow/green coolant is fine for these cars.

I have a link in the comments and description to the filter. I meant any brand but you do need to get the correct filter for the vehicle.

@@fulloftwit the one I linked is the Ford OEM filter and is 100% good for synthetic oil. You can enter your vehicle information on Amazon or any auto parts site for other options.
