Came here to see exactly what they’re doing to my car. They told me I need a whole new steering column. I just replaced the rack and pinion myself and the whole steering unit failed me. They told me 800. Cool saved a whole paycheck. Now they’re telling me the USED part fell apart and now it’s going to be a few more days after I’ve already waiting 2 weeks cause it was Christmas. I’m on the verge of doing this myself but imma end up messing it all up. Thank you for your very instructional video. How long did this all take? They told me 4-5 hours of labor.

First off there is certainly a possibility that you could not tighten something down or make some kind of mistake but that would never stop me from doing it because if anybody else can do it you can do it to. I just wanna make sure that you mean they are replacing the steering column? It could possibly be 4 to 5 hours for certain people but not skilled professional I would doubt if they are only replacing the steering column I wouldn’t think it would take anywhere near that long to replace for a professional ..... it certainly would not for me. I’m a jack of many trades but the master of none.

I have a 2008 ford escape had a power steering asist on dash has no power steering can hardly move the steering wheel. I put a used complete unit from the salvage yard. Does the used one need to be recalibrated ?

Well you wanna take a screwdriver and spread apart the end of that so it’s bigger so it goes down on the shaft that’ll allow you to get it on easier. At least that’s what I think you’re talking about

I took my dash out got it back in, just can’t get the shaft all the way in to put the screw to secure the steering wheel shaft

So what you wanna do is you wanna take a screwdriver and priy the jaws apart a little bit this will allow you to slide it onto the shaft and then allow you to be able to get the bolt back in there sorry I answered this earlier but I must not of had very good Internet

took out dash to change out leaking evaporator and replaced the heater core, fan motor and flapper doors controls so I would not need to do this again. Problem came on reinstalling dash. the steering assembly is holding the dash about one inch out of home position. Being old restricts what I can reach and see. Have tried removing the steering assembly. BUT CANT GET TO the upper bolts any ideas? I am sure its the male spline shaft not sliding all the way into the female spline shaft

Damn Dealership wants to charge me $2200 for the 09' steering column replacement. They already charged $400 for the steering torque sensor

Well the 2009 steering column is just a little bit different than the 2002 I was working on in this video but if you have a little bit of common sense you should be able to disassemble the parts you need from a used steering column and put them in your old one. So you don’t have to reprogram the key I’m gonna be making a video on the switch that goes defective in the steering columns within the next couple of months But hopefully this video inspires you to give it a try you can’t break was already broken

the part where you say the 2008-12 is slightly different is way wrong, WAY wrong. Its electric power steering. EVERY part is vastly diffrent (and the EPS breaks, allways :( )

@@sharpcarco Thank you for responding, but how do you think someone could have frigged with the ignition and jammed it up? I don't see any adhesive in the key way and everything seems to be where it should be topside on the column???🤔
