It is the job from hell for sure....took mine out yesterday. 2005 explorer xlt,,,,,Near the end, You don't need to take the condenser out with it to get it out. The two upper bolts holding it in can be removed by bending over the two plastic pcs. at the top sides. you can get a 1/4" ratchet in there to remove both bolts. The one on the right side bottom (facing the radiator) can be removed from the front grill area. You can see it by pushing the plastic piece over a bit with a screw driver. ( lots of extensions) The one on the front left bottom is the Bear. You have to remove the screw that holds the small radiator in between the radiator/condenser and have someone hold it up higher than the mount hole and then remove it by feel/guess/instinct from the bottom. (deepwell #8, 1/4 drive) Then your home free. I took the radiator out from the top with some wiggling. Reinstall the bolt you took out from that small radiator in between. That bolt that holds the bottom left radiator gets pitched..3 will be enough to hold the new one in. That whole radiator/condenser assembly must have been installed as a unit when the car was built.
@jagvette13 жыл бұрын
It was a while ago that I did this and I seem to recall that on this particular vehicle is was not possible at all to get to the bottom bolts there was no access through the bumper not sure if it had been apart before and 'modified' :), glad it was possible on yours.

I should have bought the Chilton motor manual.. this was my project from hell. Got it out thanks to my Dremel grinders on the last bolt on the passenger side. Now how do I reassemble it?
@markrichards26343 жыл бұрын
The Chilton manual is useless. It doesn't even state what size fasteners must be removed. An amateur hack at best.

In this case no as it was mostly plain water it had already dumped most of the anti freeze.

Next time remove fan clutch then seperate condenser and rad then you can get to bolts from between. No need to disconnect AC or trans cooler.
@jagvette14 жыл бұрын
on this vehicle if I remember correctly it was not possible as removing the fan clutch would still not give me access to the bolts at the bottom as the condenser was bolted in such a way that it was not possible to get them unless everything was taken out as a complete unit. Maybe your vehicle is different to this one.

Nowadays it doesn't have to be built to last forever, just to outlast the warranty.

It's a pain in the ass for sure, but I've done it before and am doing it again without disconnecting the a/c or trans lines. I'm in the process of putting the radiator back in and hope I remember how TF I got it out. I'd say Ford sucks, but so does ALL the other asshoes out there. Thanks for the video.

I couldn’t do it today. I got the old (6 months old Chinese) one out, but tried and failed to figure out how to get it back in. I did it before, but my shitty memory can’t figure it out. I finally disconnected the a/c lines and the trans cooler hoses and took it all out, made the sammich and put it back in. Somehow, my bottom hose won’t fit anymore. Either the new water pump is different, the new radiator is different, or both. It actually touches the fan belt. Thank you FORD/ASSHOLE. It’s as bad as planned obsolescence.

Shit, you're as old as I am and changing the same radiator, listening to the same music. I'm looking for tips on the final 8 mm above the drain tube. Haven't gotten that far in the video, but I'm going to cut the plastic off the old radiator instead of trying to remove the bolt first. Maybe I can see an easy way to get it out and put it back in. I'm also thinking about flipping over one or all of the clips that hold the bolts on the new radiator so that I can put them back in from the other (clear) way just in case I have to replace it again some day. May not work, but what the fuck, why not try?
@jagvette12 жыл бұрын
I'm probably older than you but mentally I am 30 going on 12 sometimes :). Yes this was a pig of a job and don't forget to check out some of the other comments as there seems to be little changes in the same model and access to bolts varies :(
@benbrown81472 жыл бұрын
@@jagvette1 Cutting the plastic around the last bolt did work to get the old radiator out. Clearances were tight, but I used a jig saw, a wood chisel and also a drill under the clip for the bolt to remove that plastic. No messing with the a/c or other coolers so far. I hope the engineer that made this a full day job at a dealership is rotting in hell right now...

If you want to laugh is a good video, if you want to replace the radiator following this guy instructions, is not a good video, you don't have to mess with a/c lines nor the transmission lines.
