Mercury Mountaineer/Explorer Radiator Replacement

This particular Mercury Mountaineer is a 2006 with a 4.6 V8 but I've replaced the radiator on older models mountaineers and its the same procedure, its also very familiar to the V6 4.0 procedures

Thanks for the video. A colleague of mine took his Sport Trac to the Dealer. Of course they charged him an arm and a leg. So he told them he can't pay for it. They put the parts in the back and hauled it to our place of business. He asked me if I could put it back together. :D I said yes.

That was a very detailed video 👍I have a question I have a 04 mercury mountaineer and I can’t find the radiator cap do I fill radiator through reserve or is there a cap on the radiator that I overlooked please help thanks

I did not have to pull the fan off. Radiator came out pretty easy. A little finagling and slid out.

I just finagled it out. Not sure. Maybe slightly different between trim levels? Wasn't a big deal.

The bottom thing you need the little black tool for will not come loose. I really wish you would have shown that. Got an 80 yr old under a car right now im trying to help and it will not budge.

Sometimes they are not that tight so no need for tools.

Also how would you know if you need a new one. This same truck I have runs hot

if its leaking or dirty from the inside it will need to be replaced

Check your coolant level. Note where it is BEFORE the vehicle runs. Then check it a few days later after it's been driven. Again check BEFORE it's driven, so it's completely cold. Coolant returns to the reservoir slowly after it cools down so don't shut it off then look. If the level is staying the same you're fine. If it's dropping, you're losing coolant somewhere. Check the seems of the radiator, where the hoses connect, around the water pump for signs of coolant leak.

*After watching a few of these I decided to take it to a shop where folks who know what they are doing to deal with it. if I tried I would need a new windshield then tires most likely and before much longer the damn thing would just catch fire and burn. I'll just take the easier softer way and get er done**
