After you clean out the moisture...if it starts to miss again...check for moisture again! If you find moisture, its time for a new intake with gaskets.

Thank you very much for sharing this info. I have an '07 Sport Trac that developed a misfire out of nowhere. In hind sight and with the knowledge I gained here, it was right after we had a significant snow melt. The scanner said #8 Cylinder Misfire (P0308), and that led me to this video. I pulled the #8 coil pack and sure enough it was wet. I got it all dried up and, luckily for me, my coil still seems to work and it's running smooth again! There is no other evidence of leaks, so I am almost certain it had to drip straight in off that plastic clip Nathan pointed out. Thank you again for the video, it is especially useful because I think this particular issue is probably Explorer specific. There are other good videos about the 4.6 in other vehicles that don't address this quirk/feature.

Put fuel injector cleaner in regularly to avoid some codes, Clogged injectors, sticking IAC valves, clogged EGR, etc. Leaky injectors can burn up the converter. A EGR that doesn't open damages the converter. Try brake cleaner on intake gaskets to locate a leaky gasket. Code testers can do a cylinder balance test.
@Wrenchingdaily5 жыл бұрын
Run a thick bead of dielectric grease just below the upper lip of the boot where it meets the top of the spark plug well. This will keep water out for awhile until you can replace the intake. Worked great for me

Fix worked perfectly for me. Out of curiosity, how frequently does this recur? What state/country do you live in and do you get large amounts of precipitation or humidity in your area?

my mustang is doing this, i just bought all new coils, i know all new isnt necessary.. but its my project car so i really look for any excuse to spend money on it new coils and plugs hopefully thats the ticket.. next it replacing the Plenum... to make sure that gasket you refrence isnt bad, but i need a new one anyways because those little brass fittings that the bolts for the coils thread to, are stripped... so i ned a new plenum just to replace those lol
@gregcxox55627 жыл бұрын
This really is an issue with these trucks. I also recommend pulling the plug and cleaning it since your right there. Depending on what fluid is in there it some times turns to a gummy jelly on top of the plug and fouls it out. Air will not remove that but a shop rag will.

Thanks tx32...I have the same leak on a Lincoln aviator .It would be nice to redirect rainwater away from that drip,but before that I have about 800 other ford oversights to torture myself with. Any tips on how to deal with a po2195 code? pretty sure its not a intake or hose leak.
@FixingWithPassion7 жыл бұрын
I know right! If you have that plastic intake. I'd start there for a crack or bad gasket in that thing. The thing is you have to replace both in order to fix it right. I did mine for less that $150.00 got the intake and gaskets on e-bay from a dealer. did it my self. Ran like new after the fix!
@EarlGuyton4256 жыл бұрын
You missed something BIG here. The first coil you removed you didn't remove the boot and spring and clean and dry the spring contact area. As a rule all people need to start doing this before replacing any coil because these get white and green corrosion at the metal contact where the spring fits inside the coil. Those coild probably never actually go bad as for your windings but build up corrosion same as older cars in where the inner distributor post had to be cleaned and the rotors

Hi there! I removed my coil and used compressed air to clean out. There didn't seem to be any moisture. I put new coil back in and there's still a misfire. Should I check the plugs next? My check engine line is still on and I'm not positive if I'm hearing a change in the idle with the new coil.

Are these SUVs normally loud. I just brought one with a 4.6 v8 and its sounds loud to me. No aftermarket exhaust.
@FixingWithPassion6 жыл бұрын
Compaired to my TrailBlazer I think there a bit louder. The explorers have issues with a noisy torque converters, the springs get weak and "rattle".
@m0v3mental605 жыл бұрын
Matthew Torres or a leak in the exhaust system can cause a louder noise.

I have a Ford Explorer V8 5.0. I had someone put it on the computer, and it shows misfiring on the 7th, instead of the 8th cylinder. Will I find the same problem that you describe on the 8th? The mechanic wanted to replace all of the plug wires.

I had this error.....and attacked "everything"... having not seen or heard about this fix.. 2001 Expedtion xlt. 108000 miles. I bit the bullet and took on the task of replacing all plugs and coils. GEEZ what a hassle!. I am 6'6 and had to still stand on a stepstool wearing a strong LED headlamp while scraping up my hands. I removed the two bolts on either side holding the fuel rails, then pried them up and "tied" them back an inch to see the spark plug holes. The ones in the back are pretty hard to get to!. On one cylinder, I got the plug captured by the 5/8 spark plug socket, unthreaded it and then the extension tool kept popping out of the socket/spark plug. I used a STRONG magnet tipped tool to insert in the hole to finally get it out. By the looks of the plugs, I think they are the original Motorcraft ones...huge gaps.... Glad I am doing all of them. I am taking a chance on using new "inexpensive" coils from Amazon rather than the way pricier Motorcraft ones. I am wondering what a Ford dealer would quote for a "spark plug replacement" labor cost. Whew.. I sure like working on my 1990 Miata engine now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@sifulowang5 жыл бұрын
Whenever i remove the loose plug or insert new ones (NEVER trust the factory gap, never) i use a foot of 3/8 misc fuel or cacuum hose on the plug tip. Read it on the back of an old hot rod rag. Life giver.
