I've done a bit of off-roading in mine, but I have a better setup - 2" levelling lift in the back, maxxis razr AT tires, electric side steps. It's fantastic and if you're crawling around at low speeds you don't use much charge. The break-over angle is still a bit of a pain, but there's always something that's limiting. Since the offroad mode doesn't do the 1-pedal style regen, I found it better to switch to sports mode going downhill. The regen "holds" your position and you can feather the throttle to control descent. However I hope they improve the offroad mode to handle hill descent better. Recently I did a near 600km day trip that cost me about $45 in charging (btw in rural qld, the chargers are a bit slow which is not ideal). An equivalent F150 ICE would have cost around $145 in fuel for the same trip.

Not really. U.S., EU, and Australian regulations all have their pros and cons. For example, Australia has the lowest fuel blend standards in the developed world and you guys use some of the dirtiest fuels. If you’re a trader and bought a tanker full of low grade fuel that would be too expensive to blend and sell in the U.S., you can sell in Australia. It took the EU nearly 3 decades to catch up to US emissions laws because European car manufacturers lied and pushed Diesel as a clean alternative to petrol and Diesel has huge emissions problems and pushed back against stricter emission standards leading to the VW Dieselgate scandal.

I speak to a LOT of people about these things and zero number of them think that price is anything but beyond ludicrous. The price of a Ranger Raptor is stupid enough but, at least, doable if it is important enough to someone. If - a big if - I was ever in the market for such a device I'd take the Raptor hands down over this giant American electric abomination. The whole electric thing is a nightmare anyway, not to mention this abomination having the battery hanging from the beast's belly waiting for a hit to enable that spontaneous combustion that Teslas do so well. Someone here in the comments said they'd sell about 6 of these a year in Australia and I'm inclined to agree. The Raptor has just had a power and torque boost in America (now 334Kw, up from about 295-300 I think) so that would be the one to get if you were bent enough to get one of these massive car-park enemies.

How does the fuel economy of an ICE F-150 compare with the same trailer?
@MotoGuzziMoto2 ай бұрын
There are over 817,000 kms of roads in Australia, 355,000 of those are sealed. So approximately 3,550kms of sealed road for every Tesla Supercharger (the 100th was recently installed in Glenelg South Australia). That will need to improve if anyone is going to take EVs seriously, but charging companies aren't able to make a profit from them and the electrical infrastructure wont cope at scale, so good luck with that. If you are still looking to buy one of these, just accept that those first few weeks of newness and surprising agility will eventually be very expensive.
@CMurdoch-n3t2 ай бұрын
On the other hand, there are more fast chargers in more places than just the Supercharger network. And the most chargers are generally set up in places where people are most likely to travel. There are vast swathes of Australia's road network which have very few fuel stations as well. I'd also guess large cities have hundreds and thousands of kms worth of roads in a pretty small area, too, so it isn't as simple as your metric makes it sound.
@MotoGuzziMoto2 ай бұрын
@@CMurdoch-n3t There are only a hundred or so ultra fast chargers in Australia, and this 130kwh vehicle wont be going anywhere in a hurry on any dinky AC charger. It would be interesting to know how many towns in Australia (on sealed roads) that don't have public fast charging infrastructure. And even in cities and built up areas, with Australia's 18 million population old enough to drive a car, if some moderate proportion of those had EVs it would be chaos. Just look at populated centres in California as an example (Car Expert did a video on it), even with only 7% percent of cars being EVs and 100,000 public and shared chargers, it is still chaos with long queues and failing chargers. So no, my point still stands. EV charging infrastructure in Australia is woeful and not likely to improve enough to be workable, for reasons already noted.
@MotoGuzziMoto2 ай бұрын
@@CMurdoch-n3t Let me put this another way. In regional Australia there are not even enough super chargers to travel from city to city, and vehicles like this F150 will need a supercharger to be practical. And in our densely populated cities there are not enough chargers to support even moderate levels of EV ownership. Look at California as an example where there are growing queues even with roughly the same population as Australia, less overall country size, less than 7% EV ownership and 100,000 public chargers! This is not a system that can scale unless fully funded by government and the population forced out of ICE vehicles.
@ChrisRyan_Oz2 ай бұрын
@@MotoGuzziMoto Faster DC chargers are always preferable, but even the weak DC chargers like ChargeFox/Yurika are ok, just not ideal. We do need more charging infrastructure and I'd love for it to come quicker. Like truck size but no at that cost, Ranger seems worth it. Q. Why dont US manufacturers build RHD on their assembly line to reduce cost manufacturing?

It’s Economy of scale because it’s a significant investment to build in a different drive configuration. Different equipment, parts, etc. It’s hard to justify especially with how little will be made RHD compared to the LHD version.

@@MecTecher in this day an age i disagree, there own be few parts if tractor manufacturers can do it why not car manufacturers.

@@JimmyShields-z2h Ford can't meet the demand in the US and Canadian market for most models of pickup (Lightning is an exception as no one wants them). It took me two years after I ordered to get my F450 (ordered a 2022 model, got a 2024 1 year and 49 weeks later). They are currently looking at converting one of the plants in Canada to truck manufacturing in order to help meet demand, but all will still be LHD. The fact is that there aren't really any RHD countries other than Australia where there is a market for full size pickups and the Australian market is small (26 million people) even when compared to Canada.

I would buy one immediately… for half the asking price!
