Would probably have to stop and charge the battery. Its not that electric trucks aren't powerful, they just can't do work without the battery being drained very quickly. That's the issue with them. With a gasoline or diesel engine, when you get low on fuel, you stop at a station and refuel. With an electric truck, you better carefully plan where you're going and how far. If there isn't a charging station within the range of your vehicle, you're stranded. The infastructure doesn't exist to make any long trips driving one. Someday it may but they're only useful for short trips now.

I'm just gonna start this off by saying I'm a Ford guy but me being a railway enthusiast I must call it out. There's no way any pickup truck can pull that much weight. If this was real then the tow strap must be one of the best in the market for being able to pull that much weight without snapping. And also a load of freight cars going at that speed would not stop on a dime as it did in the video since the automatic airbrakes on the train are not activated the freight cars would've kept rolling and slammed into the pickup truck. They obviously have a locomotive on the other end of the train pushing the cars.

But the stunt in no different than a plane being towed by a tug machine at the airport. When a train operator has to add up his cars weights he uses the dead weight. Nothing else... bottom line. Electric motor has all of its torque available at start... a combustion engine does not.

I am all for a fully electric F150, especially if it can haul ass as well as dirt! However, in this demonstration, I have a few questions. First off, a typical empty rail car weighs 25-30 tons which means 10 of them is around 250-300,000 pounds. Further, an F150 has a max curb weight of 5700 lbs so 42 of those would be 239,400 pounds. Add that to the empty car weight and you have roughly 500,000 pounds. Nowhere near the 1,250,000 they claim. Also, they are only using 1 nylon strap to pull this weight? Why not a chain? I mean, the end result is that the truck got the weight moving and thats impressive. Just be more honest in your claim. AAAAAND be the first to bring it to market! Hustle Ford, hustle!

Impressive and ingenuous promotion by Ford. But any truck can do this. Only requires about 2,000 lbs of force to pull the train and overcome the rolling resistance (level ground, metal wheels on metal tracks). Remember, an experiment without a control* is no experiment at all. *A control in this experiment could be any other truck, say a Nissan Titan or a Toyota Tundra for example.

Now try it on a 2% grade. Trains have very little rolling friction at a level grade. They don't show how they stopped the rolling train. No way the truck stopped the train.

It's called rolling resistance and momentum. Once you get the momentum going forward you will start getting less resistance. But the force to stop that much weight is a completely different animal. Which I would have loved to see that truck with a tow-bar attached to the train to try and effectively stop the train. But as mentioned in the other comments to stop the train was either the handbrake(s) on the rail cars or charged air tanks released to activate the spring brakes on the rail cars.

Contrary to popular belief, pulling rail cars is easier compared to pull even half that weight on the road. That's because the friction between the wheels and the rail tracks are very low and easy to pull. There are videos of people pulling railway cars with people in them.

This only works because the slack in the train allows for the truck to only move one car at a time instead of all at once which makes it easier. If all the draw boxes and couplers were stiff then It’d be a lot harder. Tbe rolling resistance of the train cars isn’t very high because the contact points from the wheels to the rails is the size of a quarter

Rolling resistance of steel train wheel is not much. With 10 cars and 250,000 lbs of trucks, the rolling resistance at 4 mph is around 17,000 pounds. Most trucks can do this no problem.

I have been a ford guy for30+ years. And it was impressive. But yes there's that but. Trains also pull with electric motors. With electric motors there's no drive shaft to break no cooling system for over heating plus alot of other factors. Trucks also have to function off road also, like people like to take to the path or sand n mud. That will be the real test.
