Changed mine today. 2012 at 269,000 miles. I guess I lucked out and got a good one. Never leaked, just started squeaking. The most difficult aspect of this repair was figuring out how each of the two serpentine belts go back on. While I was in there I changed the alternator too. Didn’t plan on doing this job myself but called local shops and couldn’t get in for four weeks in one shop I have always used and the others didn’t even bother to answer their phones.

Money pit trucks , my 2012 Ford F150 has been living at the dealership for a month . They said it was a timing chain tensioner and timing chains this at 72 k . Worked for 3 days and got noisy again . Now Ford direct is trying to fix it , may have spun a cam or somthing to do with lifters ( didn't know it had lifters ) OHV . the history of this truck is not great close to 6000 dollars spent on this from 2017 to 2021 April . First was the electric steering no warranty , then the electric locker , heater motor and controls , water pump and fan belt and idler . So good luck to you

Ford must have went to a crappy manufacturer for their water pumps, we've been seeing alot of water pump failures on the newer Fords at the shop I work at. We don't replace them too often on the older ones.

The bright side is that it's fairly easy to replace compared to, say, a Honda water pump. Then again, Honda water pumps typically fail at 62K.

what was the sound you were noticing? bad bearing whine? that's what I'm hearing.. took the serp belt off and thought it was the tensioner... but it appears to be fine so.. WP bearing has side to side movement and sounds rough spinning it by hand, so I'm assuming that's the culprit

I like it, can’t really complain. That extra layer not only protects the work surface but it adds a much more comfortable surface to rest on, free of sharp edges and whatnot.. I would like to eventually get a complete front clip cover, however I don’t believe I would ever get away from the ease of these single point of use covers

I have a 2011 f150 5.0. When driving the heater blows hot air but when idling it starts blowing warm. Do you think my water pump is going bad or is that just how these trucks are?
@robinsonsauto3 жыл бұрын
Have you checked the coolant level? Very common symptom when low on coolant. A weak pump and or a restriction can cause this as well. Low coolant is #1
@lobbyrobby3 жыл бұрын
@@robinsonsauto I know I have a leak. I'm pretty sure it's the o rings on the Y pipe. I'm going to change those out. And yes, I learned quickly when the coolant drops a bit you lose heat. Maybe it's suckling a little air with the bad o rings. I'm going to replace the belts while I'm doing the o rings so it would be a good time to do the water pump. However I don't know if that's necessary.

Damn good video! I have a 2016 w/ 72K miles and mine just went out. Did yours start dripping coolant down that black plastic water shoot under the water pump directly down to the top of the skid plate below the front diff?
