Just did this today. Never really learned how to work on vehicles but I have a 2017 truck I’m trying to pay off and maintain to keep for as long as possible. What a great tutorial. I just watched and paused as I worked. At the end you tell us to go back and look at our work while we wait for the engine to warm up. This saved me. I left a hose disconnected right above the hose replacement. I’m sure that would have caused me some problems. Thank you!

Great Video! I noticed a heavy coolant leak dripping off the bottom of my thermostat housing (2016 150 5.0) Found your video and thought for sure mine would be leaking from the O-ring on the thermostat side of the y-pipe. Swapped it out with the new y pipe assembly you linked and put everything back together by your directions. About 5 minutes after I filled it back up with coolant , I noticed the exact same dripping off the bottom of the thermostat housing. After closer review, I found a hairline crack on my thermostat housing!! Bought a new one which came with a thermostat and both O-rings. I put everything back together AGAIN and followed your directions on how to burp the system. Needless to say, NO MORE LEAKS, and the truck is running good at normal temps! Thanks for the video!! It helped me tremendously even though my issue was a bit different. Side Note - my truck only has 73K miles. I've had nothing but issues. My starter went out a few weeks ago with no warning, I have "torque converter shutter" (tranny flush helped) but still probably need a new torque converter, my twin manel moonroof leaks, I've had to replace 3 pulleys and a tensioner, and I've experienced "death wobble" on several occasions.. It's time for a new truck!

Plan on doing a cooling system flush and then drain system. Also while throttle body is removed I will clean it, just remember to clear the PCM before you start engine then let it idle about 10 - 15 minute as it will relearn idle position then drive it about 10 mile for relearning shift points/ throttle position. Since it’s already apart makes sense to do this as well. Great video for DIY. Use the latest and greatest coolant- Motorcraft Yellow

Did this, and replaced the thermostat on my 2012 Mustang gt coyote but when I added the coolant and followed your instructions to the letter the coolant didnt go down??? Is that a problem? It did slowly drop after refilling intially. I mean when I drained it a gallon came out. And a gallon went in. Figure I'm good. NOTE: Dont overtighten that plastic drain nut on the mustang that bad boy will crack right off. Lol.

Should be good then man. My only advise would be to check it a couple times over the next few days.

Do I only need 1 gallon of coolant to do this job? The guy at the shop said the coolants could not be mixed and I would have to flush it? Thank you! Great video btw feeling very confident!
@AutoHeadz Жыл бұрын
Yes / Depending on how much you have already lost and will lose after removing the pipes. Totally fine if a little of the old coolant mixes with the new. It’s the equivalent of mixing Dasani with Fiji water….one is a little better, but at the end of the day it’s still water.

Hey there, I have a coolant leak on my 3.5 eco 2016. I can’t find any videos that support a fix for the leak. Would this be the same process despite having the turbos?
@AutoHeadz8 ай бұрын
Yes sir. Same process. Slightly different piping but almost the exact same.

I changed my y pipe this past weekend, (great video by the way) but after a few days did you still have to add coolant? My truck keeps dropping below the minimum level on the reservoir tank and I don’t see any leaks whatsoever. Just wondering if you had to fill yours periodically as well. Thanks!
@AutoHeadz Жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Yes. Check every couple of days and add as needed. I had to add a little bit more a day later and then I was good to go.

How many gallons of coolant would you recommend? I’d imagine a full change would be 1-2 gallons?
@AutoHeadz8 ай бұрын
That’s correct. I purchased 2 gallons and only had to fill 1.25 - 1.50 gallons to be at max fill. Try and use the new OEM stuff Ford released. amzn.to/49wI1J4

Can you replace both o rings instead of buying the Y pipe ?
@AutoHeadz Жыл бұрын
Yes…BUT there is a possibility your issue could be the Y Pipe itself and not just the O Ring. Very difficult to know for sure. I personally wasn’t going to risk guessing so I did it all.
@oneeyedlama11 ай бұрын
If the plastic Y-pipe is not cracked, then you know the coolant leak is caused by one or both of the O-rings being worn out.

Think it would be fine to have a regular hose clamp on the upper y tube?
@AutoHeadz Жыл бұрын
No it wouldn’t unfortunately. That clamp in specifically designed to hold down tremendous pressure. A normal clamp would most certainly fail IMO. Hope that helps.

It's not the y-connector failing; it's the O-rings.

I too have a coolant leak, I don’t see where from though. After a day of driving I had to add about a gallon of coolant. I did check my oil and dip stick and oil seems clean, so I don’t think it’s a head gasket issue. Maybe this is the issue and I just haven’t caught it actually leaking?
@AutoHeadz10 ай бұрын
Most likely the Y pipe.
