Just rebuilt my FE at the beginning of this year, turned my 360 into a mild 390. Runs great now. Cool to see more FE stuff popping up on KZbin! wasn't much up when I was doing my research.

Aught to be a nice piece. I’ve got a 1968 S code 4-V intake up in the attic and that’s were it’s staying. Heavy!

Back in the Kunitz Kraft days, they sold stroker kit for the FE’s that used the spot face rod bolt 351M connecting rods. Off set grinding rod mains to 2.311” …. & they use the FE wrist pin size of .975 . So use off shelf FE pistons

Chance - Great Project. I highly recommend a stock 390 with a 2 bbl. Get electronic ignition and wingle exhaust. Plenty of smooth power to pull anything you and your family could hook up behind it for the next 50 years with power steering and AC. The most economical powerful way to go! C6 Automatic and helper springs.

Did seriously consider 390 but got a few more cubes with the 428 crank and couldn't turn it down. Appreciate the interest.

It's been a year now, son. Where's Parts 2, 3, and 4?
@errolpoxleitner79013 жыл бұрын
You need a 428 crank to do this change and 410 pistons.been there done that.
@lanr13192 жыл бұрын
Did you ever do a part two?
@dalecarter40253 жыл бұрын
410 pistons were used in some pickup 390s for lower compression

If possible put on an aftermarket intake with a 600/650 CFM 4BBL. Unless you have a heavy right foot and are opening-up the secondary's, you will get better fuel economy compared to a 2BBL carb. Back in the day I remember people saying the 410 FE was a very smooth engine with loads of low end torque.

I have a 67 352 that I’ve pulled the top end off Saturday and I’m going to pull it down because it was full of water and stuck but it was easy to clean the cylinders and spray WD40 and she came right unstuck. My 66 f100 short wide has the 240 in it and I’m going to swap it out after I do a rebuild.

Get rid of the two piece valve retainers. The heads are really good running, rebuild them with 2.09int 1.65 exhaust valves.

Omg! You're running rust through your pressure washer pump?? That drain is for cleaning out the heater usually loaded with sediment

Hi mate, Unless you change the crank to a 428 crank, that is 3.98 stroke you won't get a 410. @ 4.05 bore and your standard 3.50 stroke crank you have built yourself a 360. Also did you say you were going with 410 pistons? They have a different compression height, maybe from the pin height, I'm not sure. Can I ask what forged pistons you did get? Reason I ask is I have a 390 and was considering rebuilding to 410 Mercury as I have a 1968 Mercury Marquis Coupe and 410 piston choices are limited I'm told. Good luck with the build, Cheers from Australia.

Thanks for the comment! I will be using a 428 crank. Compression will be around 10:1. Pistons are Race Tech brand. I have had good luck with them.

Hoped to see you complete the engine. Did you get it finished and how did it run? How many miles were on the truck when you tore it down

I thought that all 352’s had mechanical cams so should have adjustable rocker arms or was the 332?
@taylorsutherland69732 жыл бұрын
Both 332 and 352 had hyd lifters.

The 1958 -332 and some high perf 352's have solid lifters and adjustable rocker arms.

@@taylorsutherland6973 We had a 330 in our 64 Ford 2 ton truck. Randomly it would break apushrod. Just went down to our local Chrysler dealer and they had pushrods in stock. Try that with any car parts dealer in a major town. This was in a town of 1000 people.

I'm building a 66 f100 short bed with 352 only 38,000 miles,, plenty of power with 352..
@chanceitgarage76933 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Thing gets around town cruises 70 no problem but there is always more power
@fenatic74842 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t use 410 pistons in a 390, if you use the flat top 390 pistons and those heads it will be 9.5:1.
@purpurahaze91792 жыл бұрын
You do realize a 410 is a 360/390 with 428 crank and rods also a stock 410 has 10.5:1 compression ratio

Instead of everybody making a stroker if I remember right the stroke is less grab a 332 crank and put it in there and make it rev a little better make something unusual for a change instead of everybody making a stroker motor
