Car deserves a Medal for making it that far for an over-stressed ickle engine. You deserve a medal for sorting it for more klicks, Peter.

I actually drove it afterwards James & they are a very nippy little engine. But as you said they don’t last very well. I have one in the garage at present, running but with and oil light on bright. Hopefully I will get away with just a set of belts & big end bearings 🤞🤞🤞

Looking on, in awe and with respect from London. You have great attitude. Taking it all in your stride. Got one of these vehicles - a 66reg C-max. Only 40k on the clock but coming up to 10 years old . I know that I'm going to have to get it done soon. Not going to try this at home - my excuse - no driveway. That's the least of it - also no lift and no bottle.
@kennedysgarage3281Ай бұрын
😂😂😂 there is quite a bit of work in them but nothing too extreme. I find that sometimes the fear spread on these kinda jobs is worse than the reality. A lift would make it far easier but I’d say you could do it no bother 😉🙏🙏🙏

Great Job!!! i was really impressed when i saw you do this the first time without any locking tools. By the way the US model ecoboost 1.0 the automatic has a tensioner even for the oil pump belt. And they are notorious for breaking and messing up the oil pump belt. I am working on one right now.
@kennedysgarage32814 ай бұрын
Wow, they are a slightly different design. Was there a recall of some sort on these recently ?? I’m only getting this from some of my commenters, but only in the US I think 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
@zaza61514 ай бұрын
There is actually a recall and it was issued recently they don't even have the parts yet. Apparetly they want to replace the oil pump belt tensioner with a better material and said customers will be notified when those parts are ready. @@kennedysgarage3281

Another fantastic video Peter, and on behalf of other amateur driveway mechanics (emphasis on the amateur!) out there can I just thank you for the inspiration and optimisation that you deliver us by the bucketload. Nothing seems to phase you. Your first Ecoboost belt video gave me - and countless others I'm sure - the encouragement needed to tackle the job ourselves. Not only did I learn a lot along the way and can take pride in having succeeded but I've also been able to buy a bunch of new tools with the savings I've made. The fact you did it first time round without the timing/locking tools just goes to show that there's more than way route to the same destination and in this video you've certainly shown that the crankshaft bolt shouldn't be feared, not least by undoing it one-handed with a camera in the other!! All this talk of needing a torque multiplier, well, what's a metre-long bar if it's not one of them! ;-) On the re-tightening, you are spot on with the 'tight is tight', but for those like me that might still struggle to sleep at night and wake up in cold sweats having dreamt of our crank bolts coming undone, the official specs for the tightening torque is 300Nm + 90° and so whilst it is indeed tight ('extremely tight' as Haynes put it, and they don't often use such language!) it is certainly achievable with a decent torque wrench and a long breaker to finish it off. The angle-tightening does reflect the fact that it is actually a stretch bolt so - again for worriers like me - is arguably worth a new one for only a small sum. Again though, massive thanks - you've been a great help - cheers.

Thank you so much Mathew, I really appreciate the time taken to compose such an in-depth reply. I actually thought there was a new crank bolt in the box 😬😬 But unfortunately not and I try not to stress out too much about what could happen, I use my gut as guidance and just carried on 😂😂😂😂 Thanks again for such a nice comment 🙏🙏

Unbelievable video as usual followed your two other videos, for anyone who's suffering with this job at home with regards the crankshaft pulley bolt... if you drop the engine off the mounts you will get enough room for a 1/2 inch milwauke gun or similar and should be enough to break her.

No not just fords, I work in a car dealership and we sell a lot of fords amongst other makes but since these have been around for 10 years I have replaced a lot of the belts! @@davidsimmons1767 your probably knocking them out fast so. I need a full day. But we specialise in Mazda’s & we can do some big jobs on these pretty speedy, simply due to (like you) doing so many of them. Handy to know about the turbo on these though, sometimes autopilot just takes over 😉👍👍
