Hi all, thanks so much for watching this video - just a small bit of housekeeping; I've quoted 179bhp for the old ST when it should have been 180bhp (apologies). Before you say, yes, I know it produces nigh-on 200bhp with overboost 😉
@richardhurr316 жыл бұрын
It's 197bhp with overboost, yes. And you get that power virtually all of the time. Silly EU marketing. In America it's marketed as 200hp. (197bhp)
@waynerhodes63536 жыл бұрын
212 with over boost for 20 seconds 197 @6350 rpm mine does in the USA anyway
@CarObsession6 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne, thanks for watching. Yup, fully aware of that, but that's not how it's marketed in Europe as that power output is not permanent.
@wethepeoplebmx986 жыл бұрын
Car Obsession what makes the MK7 motor different from the us model that has 197hp?
@CarObsession6 жыл бұрын
Nothing, it's just the fact that Ford isn't allowed to quote 197bhp in Europe as it's produced on the overboost, therefore, it's not technically a permanent power output as it lasts for 15 seconds. This does seem a bit silly though, considering that the overboost can be started all over again just be lifting of the throttle and then reapplying it. Plus, how likely is it that you're going to be able to drive on overboost for the full 15 seconds on public roads anyway? Thanks for watching Josh.

I have a 14 ST and I just put $2000 in upgrades, big intake, bigger Intercooler with a Cobb access port and a pro tune, it absolute hauls some serious Ass now, the Torque is off the scale, it’s easily in the 5 second to 60 mph, I was going to buy the new one just for the new infotainment system alone, but Ford pulled the plug on sales in the US at the last moment, that’s why I just did the upgrade, the US Version is a 5 door hatch witch looks awesome, there’s very few of them as opposed to the Focus ST, people every day give me complements on the looks as I have a lot of Visual mods, I’m 72 years young and have had many cars & 9 motorcycles in my life, and by far this is the most fun driving car I have ever had, long live the MRK 7.

The old st has 197hop on overboost for 15 seconds. It would be more informative and less bias to test the st200 against the MK8. The old car weighs around 200kg less than the mk8, and I think grips just as well, providing you know how to drive. A bit of Rev matching and a bit of heel and toe would see the old keeping head to head with the mk8 i reckon, and the old has half the tech that the mk8 comes with. I get things have to evolve and all, but I’m tired of you tubers giving opinions that lean to one side slightly. Again, a fairer test would have been the st200 against the mk8. It would then be neck and neck. Oh the old st has 180 bop as per fords spec sheet. Get the right info!
@CarObsession6 жыл бұрын
Hello Painau Chocolate, thanks for watching. I'm fully aware that the Mk7 had 197 on Overboost - in fact I mentioned that in my full review video. In regards to the bhp figure, I've duble checked and the official press release from Ford states that it produced 182PS, which works out to be 179.51bhp. Granted, you would round that up to 180bhp, so I can see where you're coming from, but do you really want to grill me over .49 of a bhp? I would have loved to use an ST200 for the video, especially as I've never driven one, but I happened to know someone with a standard model which was very convenient as we based in the same area. Don't get me wrong, I do know someone with an ST200, but it has been heavily modified, therefore it wouldn't be a fair test.
@painauchocolate23956 жыл бұрын
Hi, I don’t mean to sound harsh in my above comment! Everywhere, from the Fiesta ST OC forums to Facebook always mentions the MK7 as having the 180, I guess I was just being picky! If it were my video, and it’s something I do wish to do this one day, I would have waited to find a stock ST200, because I find’ by using the ST180 you can come across as a bit bias as the ST200 is essentially the same power output. It got to me that hardly no review has mentioned it!
@CarObsession6 жыл бұрын
I can see where you're coming from, but I wasn't in a position to wait for an ST200 as I had the Mk8 for a week, and I do all my filming around a full-time job, so getting time to film to begin with is tricky. In fact, for this video I only had about an hour or so to film, which sounds like plenty, but you'd be surprised how quick that time goes. I also had another video to shoot in that time as well, which still needs to be edited.

While the 3 cylinder is a great engine and sounds great, i have read that the tuning companies are having issues with the stage 2 upgrade for the mk8 ST due to how the standard turbo is set up. The stage 1 remap for the mk8 brings it up to around 250bhp as it has a much better stock intercooler than the mk7, but after that theres still no word on a ‘stage 2’ or further upgrade package.
@scottbrown74154 жыл бұрын
There is a limit to how much increase can be extracted from these tiny engines without paying a huge penalty in both reliability, purchase cost and increased service cost. As appealing as a well tuned tiny engine is, the materials technology and service life are not going to be inexpensive! I really don't want a ultra hi tech hot hatch. We all know the formula required to create one! A huge percentage of us also want the possibility of doing a few extra enhancements to get the car to feel closer to our individual ideal. The trend of displacement reduction and electronic controls is not advancing the concept. It's actually diluting it.

Yes, I know you can argue that the ST200 has the same power output, therefore, it's a fairer, and more relevant comparison, however... would you compare a Mk2 Mountune Focus ST to a standard Mk3 Focus ST? I know that's not *quite* the same, but what I'm trying to get at it is that the ST200 isn't a 'standard' ST, which is why I reckon no such comparison has taken place. Lastly (sorry to give such a long answer 😂) it could be because a lot of people (including me) want to aim the comparison to current Mk7 owners, as a guide on whether they should upgrade or not. This gives creators a broader audience as there are much more ST owners out there than ST200 owners. Also (Jesus, how long is this answer?!) would you swap in an ST200 for the new ST? I wouldn't have thought so (although it's not completely out the question), so the chances are an ST200 v Mk8 ST comparison may not be of as much interest.

@@CarObsession actually my car is a bone stock st200. And yes I thought about waiting for the new st and I drove it on the autobahn. In the end I decided against it because of my bad experiences with the 1 series 3 cylinder engine. I read the comments that you dont know somebody that owns an st200. Just as a hint, many people think its just a Mountune stage 1, and we in germany have st forums where some ford employees leaked that its quite similar im performance. So you could try to compare it to a Mountune stage 1. I know you put in a lot of effort but except for the exhaust I personally dont feel the advantage of the mk8 over my car.
@Snippetswork6 жыл бұрын
In the end here the st 200 costs 16k and the new one at least 19 k. I think if you drive a lot on the autobahn the better fuel consumption of the st 200 when accelerating is worth it. If you keep the same speed the mk8 may be able to save some gas.
@CarObsession6 жыл бұрын
@@Snippetswork Don't forget the Mk8 has got cylinder deactivation though.
@Snippetswork6 жыл бұрын
@@CarObsession thats what I meant. If you hold the speed it may consum less but while accelerating it consums more then the old car. Thats the same with the BMWs. Unless you reall accelerate gently these things need more fuel.

Very good video, I have a Mk7 and as a daily driver and a fun weekend car it strikes the right balance. I usually get bored of cars very quickly, but a year in and I’m still not bored of it. It still gets looks and I love driving it, whether normally or spirited. I’m not keen on the interior aside from the seats. It generally is basic. But I am pretty swung by the new car, I’m in the process of getting a Mk8 ST3 with the performance pack. They are both great cars, in their own ways.

Hi itzzaster, thanks for watching. A few people have complained about the way in which the touchscreen looks, but I don't really get the issue. 3TimesFaster the irony is that real car people like variety and uniqueness. Not another finance kid who’s spoiled by his parents and gets a stock ST. Car people respect each other for turning cars that most would turn their heads at into stunning builds of their own design. Whether it’s static, bagged, drift missile, track car, resto-mod or even rat rod, all builds and passions are appreciated but going to the dealership and signing a PCP is not passion and unfortunately that’s what the ST was made for:

I just bought a 2018 fiesta st with the 1.6 liter engine and I would not trade it for no three cylinder 1.5 liter Fiesta ST. No way in hell I like what I've got plus I got a great deal on it. I paid for power moon roof and voice activated touch screen navigation system $1590.00 in options that I absolutely love about this car. Less than 1500 miles on it so far. The dealer paid off my trade I ended up getting over $500.00 dollars back after my trade 2016 focus S four door sedan with barley 10,000 miles on it. My new Fiesta ST is magnetic color exterior with charcoal black/contrast STI interior Love the color of it the car had 20 miles on it when I bought it had a couple of scuffed wheels which the dealer replaced no questions ask. I did not pay anything bogus no fake doc fees, or dealer prep fees, just title and license fee. destination fee and taxes ,and that was it a couple thousand dollar discount from the $23,750.00 The best handling car I have ever had including my 2016 mustang 5.0 that I traded in for the focus. Later on I plan to put the Cobb turbo upgrade kit on the Fiesta ST and turn it into a 11 second street hot rod with 400 hp limit it has a cast iron crankshaft so 400 is for sure my limit maybe 380 just to be safe with the tune. No fuel upgrade needed no bigger injectors I do't think so any way, stock cams will rev out to 7800 rpm no problems with some valve springs of course. or at least shims to go under the springs that are on the engine now.a Cobb tuner and cold air intake with a cone filter and big straight free flowing hose for the intake cold air package. The stock exhaust will be at its limits after the kit is installed. $1859.00 for the complete kit down pipe inter cooler upgrade cold air kit. 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds for sure and quarter mile in mid to high 11en's. 500 pounds lighter than the focus RS or more even closer to 600 pounds lighter. Traction will be a big problem with it pushing 400 BHP at the wheels.
