As soon as you said hard time starting after fueling up I know it was the purge valve. The VW Jetta did it and I was confident what is was. Great video.

So to me, it seems that the fuel trims were misleading. I was expecting to see a rich condition but it showed a lean condition that got better as the RPM s go up, indicating a vacuum leak. Could one of those connectors been leaking? Is it possible that someone else was in there and didn't have one of those connectors snapped back in all the way creating a leak. Very interesting for sure! Thanks for posting!

If the purge valve is stuck open it will pull gas vapors from the tank after a fill or sitting. But after the initial vapors are removed the vent valve is then open and air can be pulled into the engine causing lean conditions as it’s unmetered air . That’s my 2 cents

It should show lean condition. The purge valve is open allowing fuel vapors into intake. Which would cause rich conditions which would cause ecu to command lean trim

I just got a recall notice from Ford for the Focus purge valve. Your customer should be able to file a claim for the replacement.

My Friend you spend 13 minutes of our time diagnosis what is already diagnosed by scan tool as always!! just turn on smoke machine find where is the small leak but if you find it in purge valve just go for it. If you do not trust scan tool get another one. be practical and follow the right procedure by the book to add value to whom seeing the your videos. I wish you accept my idea with good positive feelings. Thanks.

Purge valve is a common problem for ford focus and that is nothing comparing to the worse problem that kind of car ever have that break pepple pockect which is the dual dry clutch ttansmission, which start acting up at 50000 mile and stop.working at 70000 to 80000 miles if you lucky, and the clutch assembly cost beteween 3500 to 5000 dollar to replace and good luck finding the mechanic who is willing to do that, even the dealer stop replacing the clutch for long time and suggest new transmission assembly only for that car. Because when you replace clutch assembly for that car, you meed to replace the clutch actuator motors and the TCM, or the new clutch will not last for long. it happen to.a friend.of mine, it was a disaster.
