It's people like you who help people like me to save time & headaches. Took me 2 hrs for the drivers side & 1 1/2 hrs for the passenger side. Pretty straight forward. Instead of taking the brake caliper off the holding bracket, I simply removed the holding bracket to save some time. Thanks!!!!

Great video! I was able to follow your steps and get this done. Saved my grandson some $, but it’s not a fast or easy job. The snap ring was rusty and tight… took a lot to get it out. The strut pinch bolt was the worst.. broke a few ratchets and breaker on it. Tried heat to no avail. Penetrating oil for a week before it would budge. Impact to break up the rust then a long 1/2” breaker bar. You definitely need a good 15mm 6 point socket. Bearing pressing in and out wasn’t too bad with a press and big sockets. Thanks!

This is one of the better videos on this. Really appreciate the upload. Helps allot. I'd like to add a few things though. I don't know about cutting off the race like that. It's only $15 more for a new bearing that comes with the hub. It works if you are careful not to gouge the hub surface but to me that's not worth saving $15. The kit also comes with a new spindle nut since you shouldn't reuse the old one. Thanks again.

Fantastic! Terrific explanations, great camera work, now I'm inspired to go do this. Did the front bearings successfully on a 2006 Ford Fusion, similar in many ways. I went with Timken bearings, seemed to be the closest to OEM and quality. If you have any thoughts on which bearings to select, please share. My attitude is I want the best I can get to not have to deal with this nasty annoying job ever again.

Great video! Never thought I was capable of replacing a wheel bearing myself, but following this vid it was cake work after buying a press. My only complaint was you mentioned removing the lower ball joint pinch bolt with a t50 torx bit. I spent about 20mins trying to ratchet it before stripping the head, but I found out when the nut is removed all you have to do is tap it with a hammer and it pops right out!

Having a 03 focus, I have done 4 wheel bearings on this car!Living in the North East, It is 7:34 pm & FREEZING!!! 18 DEGREE'S & I AM SOAKING WET, Weather says 18 degree's but, it was raining so earlier & looking at the weather, it is supposed to get warmer/ up to 38 degree's later on tonight but, Of course I need this done asap & had to pound the spindle out with a bearing/seal driver & I cannot remember which direction the bearing goes, weather in & out threw the back, or front, (I believe it's threw the back of the knuckle?) So, lucky me, I wizened up, removed the entire knuckle & took it indoors & used the vice & pounded out the spindle in about 10 min, This one was really stuck! ANYWAYS, I purchased new ball joints & the pinch bolts that came with the new ball joints were not correct! The pinch bolt thickness was not similar to the original star bolts & of course I installed the new bolts & found out the hard way! Luckily, it happened within walking distance to my place & I was pulling away from a stop sign so, I was going slow when the pinch bolt failed & the wheel buckled! THE ONE TIME THAT I DIDN'T COMPARE THE NEW BOLT WITH THE ORIGINAL & I WAS HAPPY TO GET RID OF THE STAR BIT TYPE BOLT & REPLACE IT WITH A REGULAR BOLT! The one time I didn't compare & match every part & measure= Disaster! Luckily my speed & proximity to home made it a easy fix! So, be weary of online replacement pinch bolts!

That pinch bolt is a T50 impact torx bit , not a regular cheap socket style torx bit , it was intended to be used with an impact for 3 seconds flat and that should be enough to free the nut and bolt properly without stripping your torx head

9.35 make sure to put the torx bit all the way in...top tip; a firm tap with a hammer on the socket will press the rust out of the way. you only have one chance, in real life you don't get another quarter! 20.45 the new bearing has one magnetic side, it needs to face the abs sensor, or the abs will not work.

Are you talking about the lower ball joint Nuts/Bolts? If so you can put them on both ways. There is no problem with turning clearances. I see this a lot on cars. People work on them before I work on them and flip them around. I do make sure there both on the same way when I do them.

I was always told to change both bearings at the same time. And honestly never got into a job and said ya lets just do one side. Unless you are looking for a few more months out of your vehicle and trying to save as much money as possible I recommend doing both sides at the same time.

@@FixingWithPassion Meaning you only changed one wheel bearing? And the other was factory or at least the same age of the one you replaced? Im impressed. Thanks for the info. Edit.. Upon a little google research turns out that things have changed haha. I grew up in my dads shop which in the beginning was owned by my grandfather. So 20 years ago it was common practice to replace both sides. Most cases now if the one side appears to be fine then it is unnecessary to do them both just because of one failing. Again thanks for the info.

mind the orientation of the new bearing, one side should face the abs sensor, not sure if the red side should face inward or outward. It wasn't mentioned in the video, so then you have a 50% chance on an abs malfunction!

Just a note about using the old outer race to install the new bearing. Its much better to grind the O.D. down a bit on the old race so it doesn't get re inserted tightly into the bearing bore hole when pushing the new bearing in. Just a light grinding on a bench grinder will give enough clearance so it moves freely in the bore.

You can always buy a "new" used at the scrap yard that got the wheel bearing and everything in it already, then you can proceed to put a new wheel bearing in the original one while still using the car, something going wrong during the bearing installation is the worst and you will be without a car for quite a while. Pulling everything apart and together again in this front suspension would usually take 2 hours, add another 4 hours on the bearing. I hate these press fit bearings, i like the bolt on ones alot more.

Kamdaddypurp you can do it without one, use a seal driver set. Tool loaner program at autozone for free

You do not need a press. Your local parts store will have a loaner tool to remove and set bearings.

Good luck with that. My parts store just looked at me, then I walked out in 1992.

LOL, that lower ball joint was lose as fuck. It's supposed to be stiff, I'd know, I just changed one today. Didn't they have hub grapplers back 5 yrs ago? You know, the tool that you can change out the bearing without a press without removing the hub assembly from your strut?

Thanks man I appreciate you doing a video that covered this I do have one question I have a 98 Ford Contour SVT and I'm looking at doing front wheel bearings on both sides and both back wheel bearings the car was in rough shape when I got it can you tell me how similar will these be to each other they look very similar 2 Watts on my car but I just wanted a second opinion I think since I don't have a press that getting my hands on the knuckle and everything would be the way to go for me

You cant't tell by spinning the bearing in your hand. You have to listen when you load the bearing by turning to one side and then the other side while turning corners.

I'm pretty sure you could just buy that whole assembly and save yourself a lot of time yeah it may cost money but I mean really money doesn't really matter when you're wasting time you can always go and make more money you can't make more time

I believe he put the torques bolt in from the wrong side? maybe 4 ease of acces? I just remember him showing it earlier & then as he brought it up & reinstalled it< I thought I remembered it being on the front side but when he reinstalled it, he put the nut on the front side,as if he simply flipped it maybe for ease of access? Unless I saw it wrong? & I BET I JUST SAW IT WRONG! I have a fucus, (that's my nickname 4 em) so, I like watching all the online repair vids because sooner then later, I will be doing all the same repairs myself! I need a press!!!
