Ford Focus MK4 ST-Line steering wheel cracking noise | ST DRIVE

I had the same issue on my 2023 Focus (MK4.5) and went to original Ford dealer. The enginner also identified this issue as steering column problem. The engineer replaced by steering column and the voice is gone.

My 2019 mk4 doesn't rattle but you can clearly hear the electric motor spinning. I wonder if this is normal or if its an issue. Yesterday on a small roundabout the steering wheel started shaking and pulling as if the lane departure warning kicked in but I have that turned off.

I would advice you to go to the dealer and check it . Steering column issues must be very dangerous . So check it immediately !

hey , september 2021 focus St Line X, at 24.000, it started doing the exact same sound. What did you solve ?

Steering column replaced under warranty.Check with your dealer.

I'm having this issue at the moment. Ive had it for several months. Same steering wheel noise, the steering wheel has on one occassion become inssnely tight and unable to really move. Just been quoted £1281 for the steering column to be replaced but i have been sdvised to see ford, even if it is out of warranty. Any help, advice welcome...

I was urged to get in touch with them by the garage. I've since started a case with ford to try and get them to rectify the issue. Did your steering ever go very heavy or lock momentarily?

No lock or heavy steering wheel.just the noise issue.. if your car is under guarantee contact ford to replace it for free

@@stdrive it isn't. That's the issue. Lady said at ford that potentially there may be some good will repair potentially. Worse case, I'm 1300 worse off 🙄🤦

My ST edition makes a similar sound when steering the wheel but only when tyres are wet idk if its the same thing but its fine in dry wheather

In my case i hear this noise on every surface. It comes from the steering wheel.

I have the same sound in my 2020 model car. at 8500km. I made an appointment with the authorized service. They said the steering box might need to be replaced. It's definitely not normal.

@@stdrive I went to the service yesterday. The fault has been detected by the authorized service. The problem is the steering column. A video was taken and an application was made to take action from the warranty. In the evening, approval came for the exchange under warranty. Parts ordered. I'm waiting for the part to arrive.
