I find it fascinating how different countries have different takes on the same car. I think this is the first review I've ever watched that said the ST wasn't dramatic and a Golf had a better engine noise inside. I respectfully disagree. As for my 2013 ST it's been a dream to own. Perfect daily driver with zero problems. Yes it's a blast to drive fast, but what makes it so special to me is how practical it is for everyday use. Drop off the kids and the groceries and then go for a blast through the mountains. The ride is pretty good for a performance vehicle, you can fit a lot of stuff in the back, and it gets great fuel economy for how much power it has. I love my Focus more than any other car I've owned and would only trade it in for an RS or that new thing Tesla is revealing tomorrow at 8:30pm PST. ;)

Your review is spot on .I've got the ST3 in spirit blue with a few mods and its a dream to drive . Really benefits from stiffer engine mount and exhaust mods as well as induction kits available. The biggest surprise I've found is that I've still got my license 😂 The cars understated performance is exceptional.... Well until till I save up for the new RS

I've driven a couple of these and they're great cars. Quite practical too, what with four doors and a decent boot. If you can, you should try the Fiesta ST. It's not quite as practical with only two doors and tiny back seats, but it's so light and nimble, and the engine so eager, that it eclipses its bigger brother in many ways (just not in a straight line).

The pedals are not wellp laces for heal and toe shifting in left hand drive cars. It's the biggest complaint I have with my 2016 model. It's so irritating. It's 1.5 inches lower than the brake pedal, and it needs to be moved over about half an inch to the left for better spacing.

It does ruin it, yes. My solution is a spacer with alternate mounting holes. Since it's an electronic throttle, where it goes does not matter, as long as the connector can get in range.

I'm an engineer for a company that does custom machines and tooling, so all I need to do is buy the aluminum and make it myself after work one day. :D

You are incorrect on the account of a toe hitch not being an option. I'm fact there are a couple different options One goes below the exhaust and another one is "hidden" above the exhaust. I have the latter option and it works brilliantly. Tows 2000# easily

I recently test drove the 2017 Focus ST and thought that whilst it has all the modern gadgets inside, it felt flat and boring in comparison to the 2009 Focus XR5 that I currently own. The new ST just doesn't have the same kick in the pants/excitement of the XR. If Ford could take the 5 cylinder Volvo engine and drop it into the new ST, it would be more of the car I was hoping it was going to be. In Europe the Focus ST and other hot hatches like it are 3 door versions which seems to make the styling look more aggressive. I do wish this would the case for the NZ and Ozzie market.

How do you compare your Redline to the ST? I’ve got a Redline and a Focus Trend and I think the 1.5L Trend is Fantastic for driving through tight twisty roads, makes me wonder how good the ST would be.

CarNut .kiwi The LZ Ford Focus Trend is getting traded in for the new Focus ST-Line, mainly because my wife drives it 90% of the time and wanted a auto (Australia only gets auto) and the Trend is a manual. We bought the LZ Focus as a 2nd car not really expecting much but I really reckon it is fun car to drive even in low spec Trend, it’s changed my mind about FWD and fun. I owned a Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo that used to torque steer and chirp its tyres between gear changes so I’m picturing the ST would feel a little bit like that except handle well like the Focus. I’ll write back to this thread once the ST-Line arrives as right now it’s on a boat having just left Germany. I’d love to see you do a review on the new Focus too when you get a chance.

Focus needs to be lighter, tighter turning radius, bigger gas tank, locking glove box, center fold down backseat. Then it would be better/as good as the GTI. The styling rocks and is more fun to drive howerver.

I went to a dealership and checked this out. The interior feels so cheap. I mean it might be a good car and all but the interior is so freaking cheap. The handbrake looks like it will just snap if I pull too hard. Dissapointed because this was the car I was looking to getting,

+Diwash1 One of the reasons why it costs less than the competition. At least here in the states. I can attest after 3 years of ownership, nothing has broken.

Interior is not that bad. Go look at an 06-11 civic si. Now that interior is terrible and cheap.
