damn 6 windshields!!!! I've recently replaced my first one... my deductible is $500 so I had to pay out of pocket and that cost me just over $330! I've personally driven about 12k miles in the 6 months I've owned it. This past month I've been driving a lot less. About to hit 63k miles on mine and the only repairs I've done was the Evap purge valve then I just changed the oil which is regular maintenance and upgraded the spark plugs to NKG ones. But runs like a charm after that!! LOVE IT! :)

Unless you're a commercial driver, the AVERAGE person really shouldn't need to drive more than 15k miles a year (national average is 13.5k). Obviously there are exceptions, but even living out in the country I don't do more than 15k that isn't work related. So yeah, 20k is kind of a lot for most people. I'm an Uber driver and I've done 40k in 1.5 years which would be excessive for someone not driving for work. 120k is where a lot of long-haul truckers sit per year.

I have the 2016 Focus ST in Oxford White, and have had it brand new since my 16th birthday. I barely used it until I turned 18 (by barely used, I literally mean that I probably drove it 3-4 times a month for the first two years) and started college. It’s been in perfect condition as I’ve been taking good care of it myself, hand washing it, and doing a bit of maintenance here and there on my own. Aside from the scuffs under my front bumper and a scratch from being rear-ended by a Rubicon JEEP (it was repaired immediately), it was essentially good as new. I just moved out to Southern California for my BA two months ago, and I’ve been commuting to the university daily which has resulted in me having to deal with the terrible SoCal traffic, trash infrastructure, and even worse drivers (lol). This sudden lifestyle change for both me and my car has led to a few nicks on the windshield because of the freeways/highways, but other than that everything is just fine. HOWEVER, there’s a lot of broke college kids on my campus, so I just got my rear passenger reflector stolen a few days ago :( I ordered the new part online and plan on replacing it myself because I’d rather not deal with the cost of repairs through other means and I’d rather not have the dudes at the mechanic shop try to dupe me with the false notion that a teenaged girl can’t possibly know a thing about her own car Lol. TLDR; I love my car, take pride in it, and am more than happy with my choice of first car. :)

I've watched basically all your videos on the Focus ST and I just want to thank you for the fantastic information! I have looked at literally every performance car I can afford, Audi S3, Golf R, WRX STi, etc. I live in Colorado so I really wanted AWD but everything outside of the Focus RS is missing the fun factor, and the RS is a bit spendy and a bit rough on our roads. I keep coming back to an ST3 as the perfect balance of luxury features I care about while also being cheap enough and practical enough that I don't gag at the thought of buying one and driving it every day. I guess we'll see! It turns out ST3s are actually kind of hard to find.

Maintenance so far in 1+ years 2018 ST: 3 oil changes Here's to 4 more years of Focus ST...I still smile when I merge onto the freeway holding 4th gear and a nice person moves over to the next lane to let me in, how nice of you, but not necessary...pshhhhhhhh

I was almost in awe at how perfectly smooth and in mint condition the roads were. Nothing like that exists here. A newly paved road will become uneven and start cracking very quickly with our winters. On some roads potholes are so bad that not seeing one and hitting it could end up with a bent rim, popped tire, etc. I swear to god i hit a pothole so hard in my 2010 ford ranger last year the ENTIRE RADIO came out from the center console and hung by wires. Makes me worry about my st.. not to mention all the salt rn. I just got my st washed yesterday and its covered in salt again :( on a good note, i am now running stage 3 on e30 custom tuned by jst! Personally I almost like chips and stuff like that in the front end because it shows that you've used the car, shows you've given it a proper rodeo and loved it. That is, if you plan on keeping it which considering these cars are probably not gonna ever become collector's items or anything like that, I'm gonna drive mine into the dirt and rust. They are like battlescars to me when I remember taking it out onto a gravel pathway and drifting around dirt corners rocks flying and all. If you don't plan on keeping it, just do all those repairs once you feel youre ready to part with the car, although I dont know how you could ever do that.

My 2014 Focus ST has 189K and running solid. I bought it brand new for around $23K out the door, I had to find a cheap car because I had been unemployed for almost a year and couldn't afford much. The 2014 Ford Focus ST is the best car purchase that I have ever made, and I traded in my Challenger SRT for it. I travel for work, and I drive my Focus everywhere. Here's the good and the bad. Around 100K, I had to have my fuel filler filter replaced. Around 130K, I had to replace my steering motor, wasn't happy. I had already planned to replace my turbo at 200K, and I think it is due, possible that the turbo seals are starting to break down, but I want to go faster anyway. The bushings in the rear sway bar are starting to break down, and I notice some mild rattling from it. I do not drive this car easy all the time, especially when I get a chance to drive on mountain roads or at my local track. I am still on the original clutch, the motor still has good compression, still using the original exhaust, on my 3rd set of brake pads (I replace pads at 50K regardless of how much pad is left). I have a few goodies waiting to go on the car, adjustable coil-overs, larger sway bars, adjustable toe bars, and end links, etc. It may have a few miles on it, but I look forward to driving it every single day. It's simple, it works, and it puts a smile on my face, and that's all that matters. If I replace the Focus ST, I will likely replace it with a Focus RS, or maybe another ST.

I think that's a really important thing that a lot of people forget to mention of these cars on KZbin. The very weak ringlands. Don't lug your engine. Use good oil. I constantly run 87. Don't floor it until above 3k rpm, let it warm up prior to going into boost etc. Most cars pop cause shitty tunes/improper driving style aka lugging etc. It's sad. Mine has 95.5k miles on it, bought with 72k Feb 6th of 2019 and didn't even get an extended warranty. Mine is damn near FBO (missing downpipe) but it's stock tune. Won't be tuning it until I find a company I can trust and can be sure it'll still pass emissions.

@@diyjosh9327 It's your car and you can put whatever octane fuel you want in it, but it's definitely not the best for our EcoBoost engines. You're gonna get a very lean mix of fuel to air with 87 and the turbo pushing air into the combustion chamber. Might even possibly get knock (I know these cars have a lot of knock sensors). Worst case would be it getting WAY to hot in the combustion chamber and melting or pitting your pistions, thus breaking the ringlands which has happened to A LOT of guys in the forums. Check out the "Blown Motor Resource Thread" on the link I previously provided. There's over 100+ pages of guys talking about blown motors. I know the Ford manual says 87 is fine, but Ford also recommends in the manual for best results, run 93 octane. Yes, improper driving, mods, and tunes might have a lot to do with it, but it's happened on completely stock STs.
@diyjosh93274 жыл бұрын
@@bradenblais1874 actually. Stock map the car auto adjust for 87 or 93 fuels. Tuned sure, but stock map even in fords booklet it says the car can safely run 87 or 93. Remember these cars take and make a correct fuel to air ratio on stock map. You can't BS someone that lives breathes and sleeps cars bro.

@@bradenblais1874 ringlands break from idiot tunes and LSPI (Low Speed Pre Ignition) yeah if you floor your box @1k rpm in 5th or 6th gear it's gonna blow the ringlands. Half the stuff you said makes no sense though. I know these cars like the back of my hand because I thoroughly investigate vehicles prior to purchasing. I also have a 6.7l Turbo Diesel that is deleted. As long as you boost above 3k rpm and allow the car to warm up you'll never have LSPI issues. Too many morons floor these cars while temps are cold and that'll also pop ringlands.

I'm late but I have 2014 Focus ST that's under 60k miles and had 6 recalls. It sucks for what it is but then that's what happens when you buy a first generation car. It's still a decent car after all the recalls, but I'll go back to jdm cars in the near future.

I'll always love my st 🥰, just a thing I did different is I'm going with some non oem mods, cpe cold air intake, Cobb accessport v3, I'm planning on getting a custom tune for it, probably from jst or something. I did also replace my standard shift knob with the st3 knob (I have an st2) it just feels better

Hi Gjeebs, re the windows this is a really standard German car feature and there’s a procedure you go through to activate or deactivate the auto up/down feature, and occasionally you need to “reboot” it to stop that glitch. Are you bummed that the new 2019 Focus isn’t available in the US? The new ST is seriously fun - it’s faster in-gear than the previous RS 😃

Have a 2017 ST1 with the cloth seats. 6'3" and about 215- totally comfortable for up to an hour at a time. Only drive it around town but liked the cheaper seats better for the reasons mentioned. BTW- third car so almost 2 years old and only have 3800 miles.

Howdy there! I will hopefully soon be able to purchase the car Ive been wanting for soooo long and have watched about every KZbin video on! I'm going to be looking at buying a second hand Ford Focus ST3 not older then the 2015 model but preferably 2016 upwards. I was hoping on just asking your advice on a couple of things........ firstly, obviously you want to find a vehicle with the least amount of mileage but what would be the maximum acceptable mileage you would personally recommend considering? Secondly, are there any tell tale signs I can look at without test driving the vehicle which can help me judge the condition? I know you mentioned in one of your videos to look for the little guard flaps on the front grill to see if the intercooler has been changed. Anything else you could recommend me look at...... even cosmetically? Lastly, do you know from which year model the bigger Infotainment touch screen became available? Thats definitely one of the things I would want to make it feel more up to date. Once again thank you for all the great videos! They are very helpful and informative.......... Keep them coming!

Man I would love to get that Ford Performance Exhaust. I know you speak highly of it, but do you think it's loud enough to warrant it? I have never had an exhaust on any car I have had, but I want something that sounds good and makes this fun car and more exciting. I don't need anything really loud, but lots of people online say to just go with the regular Borla one.

Do you ever use a duster or leaf blower to clean that dark blue, after it's sitting outside all day at work? I recently bought a magnetic grey ST & it really shows a lot more dust than I'm used to..... I was considering buying a small electric leaf blower, good or bad idea?

Odd question, but how do you get out of your driver seat? I put a hand on the steering wheel so I can push myself up and then not have to put weight on the lower side bolster, but I’m wondering if it’s not a good idea to put weight on my steering column when getting out. My ST3 seats are in great shape too and I’d like to keep them that way.

Geordiesrule ironically, the Focus is German, pretty much. It was almost entirely designed in Germany and although some US models are built in the USA (RS is not, not sure about ST?) much of the components are German/European in origin - lots of Bosch electronics, Faurecia interior etc. That said, European Fords are generally more robust than equivalent VW product

Can you please call or write to Ford Customer Service and tell them Ford's AMERICAN customers NEED the newest generation Ford Focus ST that was just released in Europe. I really want to buy a new ST for my next car, but how can I if Ford won't sell its own fellow Americans their best cars?! I think if they hear from enough of their customers complaining, they may bring over limited quantities for us Ford manual transmission enthusiasts!
