I'm not a mechanic but did a head gasket myself a couple of months ago. If you look at the valves from cylinder 3 and 4 you see they are not black by exhaust gasses but a bit cleaner compared to the others. Would explain the white smoke when running. I think there is your problem somewhere. Could be the gasket or a cracked head.

The white smoke from before was the turbo as it had holes on the coolant side plus my intercooler had alot of water inside it to.

Hey man currently rebuilding the exact same car! Grab yourself some Seafoam and give the cylinder a good clean and go from there!

Well if no 3 cylinder isn't knackered, the cylinder head probably is, as even i know they are tightening and losened normally starting from the centre outward swapping from left to right etc, maybe now it resembles a banana, and did i see you separate the cam cover with a crow bar, the surface's are machined flat to keep the oil in ! But best of luck, you'll need it bud 😱🤯

The cam cover was stuck on 🤣🤣

Get yourself a "dingleberry hone" and try clean up that middle cylinder with some CLEAN oil with the hone, using scotchbrite or sandpaper can create more hassles where as the dingleberry hone is used with a drill in a vertical motion, this SHOULD get most of the rust (and hopefully its not pitted too terrible).
@Gear_Up201Күн бұрын
I thought you was joking calling it a dingleberry 😅 thank you definitely going to look in to it.

@Gear_Up201 All good mate 😀Take a look at some videos on how to use them properly - you can do it with the piston still in the bore but there is always the chance you may miss some of the corrosion that the piston may be covering. Best of luck and looking forwards to the rest of the series on the ST. (I own a colorado red MK2.5 ST (known as an XR5 here in Australia)

Clean up the bores more and check for cracks on the inside as you won’t really see the crack from the top, when they go the cracks are hairline, the crack isn’t actually the problem and the engine will continue to run 100% fine most of the time. The issue is once it cracks the cylinder goes oval, if you don’t have a bore gauge to check it, easiest thing to do is use a feeler gauge in the coolant passage and make sure they’re all the same thickness
@Gear_Up2012 күн бұрын
Thank you 😊 will try and check

Good news about not being cracked liner but cylinder 3 deffo doesn’t look great but I’m sure u will get it sorted buddy happy new year
@Gear_Up2012 күн бұрын
Thank you 😊 do you think I will need to send it away?

And happy new year

100% that head gasket has gone I would fill the bores with oil and turn the engine over see if the bores clean up then if not I'd be worrying about piston rings on the rusty cylinder
@Gear_Up20113 сағат бұрын
I'll already brought some stuff 😅
@Bryan-M2 күн бұрын
Water is getting into your combustion chamber, that is why it’s not running right, that is why it’s rusty. It should never be rusty. Only oil should be on the cylinder walls. You can’t tell if you have a cracked liner without doing a compression test but you’ve already taken the head off. The crack is more of a tiny fracture, barley visible. I’d say you do have a cracked liner, or head gasket problem.

The turbo gone and let a whole lot of coolant in to the engine it self.. plus when I put a new tubro on the smoking stopped 😅

Could it have been headlift? Or pressurised pcv system
@MuuuunchieКүн бұрын
Mate there are tiny timing marks on the cams if you didnt know
@Gear_Up201Күн бұрын
I did but I wanted to make sure 🤣

@Gear_Up201 haha yeah I said that b4 you took the head off so it was irrelevant anyway 😂

Hey man. What caused the mould to form? The cover?
@Gear_Up2012 күн бұрын
I think water is getting in some how but when the cover is on it can't escape too.
@D3f1anCE2 күн бұрын
cylinder 3 looks screwed dude.....I'd suggest you source a new block......you can try and clean them up with some petrol and some super fine grit paper, but you're probably wasting your time. good luck, looking forward to seeing what you decide :)

Or buy a bare engine and put all of the good parts onto it I've seen quite a few at the price of buying a new headgasket kit
@CuriousGamer0222 күн бұрын
Would be cheaper and less hassle to replace the engine,I'm surprised that it even ran in that condition

That’s scrap I wouldn’t bother chucking any money at it tbh mate
