Had a bimmer in today for work - I've serviced a lot of cars, never seen an oil filter coated with a solid, toffee consistency layer of hardened oil, 5mm thick, all over the filter. Took a screwdriver to dig down into it to get to even see the filter paper. Zero oil was passing through that filter. Nada. Dropped the "oil" & it was the consistency of tapioca. All 3 liters of it. Going by the drain plug, the filter housing & just general nouse, I reckon that this car had never had an oil change since new. 140k km on the clock. Service book all stamped up to date nice & purty... Brakes were in no better state. A lot of garages out there pulling peoples plums IMO, Baz - they get the bills, but not the work done. You will know this yourself.

I think the extended service intervals of 18000 miles between oil changes does not help with the wet belts. I use the Ford labelled Castrol 5w20 every 12 months and I am only doing between 4000 - 5000 miles a year but mainly short journeys. Hopefully this will delay the inevitable failure as long as possible.

Great description of what looks to be a difficult job. It looks like you go the extra mile in cleaning out all filters, advising the customer and replacing all parts whilst you’re in there. I wonder how many other garages would do that?

Baz, there's also a mesh strainer in the "Oil Pressure Control Solenoid" that can block with wet belt debris. This solenoid is on the rear of the engine block, beside the plug where the crank timing pin screws in. There's a Dayco instruction video on KZbin "Garage Wire" Channel showing this solenoid being removed to check and clean the mesh strainer.

Top job as always. I realise the camshafts are the last place to get oil hence the decision that if the cams are unmarked the engine is probably ok. Did you consider removing a big end to check bearing condition as they are the last place in the main bearing / big end line of oil flow? Clearly with the light going out so quickly all is well but interested in your perspective.

I was led to believe it had just happened with the light, so many things I could have pointed out in the video... If the crank had any signs of blue marking I would have pulled a cap off and looked the crank, and again with the cams, if any metal fillings were in the pick up I would have checked it more thoroughly.

I have a fiesta 1.0L ecoboost. It is about 10 years old and has done just over 73k miles. It has never had a wet belt replacement but it has also been properly looked after. All services done on time, only ever taken directly to Ford for servicing. Only ever had the officially recommended oil used on it. Even for small things such as new heat shields, the work has been done only at Ford garages. What are the chances my belt is bad? I could not afford to get a replacement but that also means I couldn't afford to repair if it is bad enough to go 'boom'...

Is it advisable to change the oil and water pump while already there? My car has about 150k KM on it. Or any other parts while already getting everything off?

Baz, in your last wet belt video and this one too, you took off the vacuum pump to clean out the filter which was also full of belt material. Assuming removing that is a much easier job than dropping the oil pan, is the vacuum pump filter state a reliable indicator of belt health?

Not true, if engine goes bang, i have seen many forum posts of people that tried to claim the extended warranty. Ford required the print out of every service including all parts used, must be a ford filter and the requirement for the ford castrol magnetech oil This must be written on the print-out. A simple stamp in the service book isn't enough. A second owner would not have this info and if it had been serviced at an independent they may not have recorded or used the correct oil brand.
