This is a GREAT video, with one caveat. The main issue is getting a socket to fit over the electrical connections on the starter (the part with the black plastic). With the starter in place, I couldn't get a socket on it nor an offset wrench. Unfortunately, the video doesn't really show how to do this, and I almost gave up in frustration (as others have commented). Here's the solution: Take off the two bolts that hold the starter in place, then pull the starter off the dowels that hold it in position, like you were ready to take it out. It will drop down JUST enough to get the wrench on it!!! Same process on the re-insall...tighten down the two electrical nuts before you put it up on the dowels.

Huge thanks! 2005 Ford Focus 2.0L starter replacement itself went seamlessly because this guy shows you what you actually need to know and look for. I did find other issues I had to deal with due to previous mechanic starter installation damage but that was so much more manageable because this guy laid out all essential knowledge in a clear orderly format.

Just replaced the starter on my 2005 focus, 2.0 with the help of this video, everything was exactly the same, didn't remove the oil sensor plug because it was installed backwards, still managed to finagle it out though. Very comprehensive video, thank you sir.

For all you out there with a ZX3 2.4L motor. This video is almost exactly on. The only changes are 1) There is an additional bolt(and bracket) on the passenger side near the electrical harness. The nut on the bracket is 10mm and the both is 13mm, once you remove this and the 2 additional bolts from the drivers side the starter will detach. 2) You do not need to take the intake manifold off to get the electrical harness, just remove the starter and point it down, the nuts are easy to acess
@brucear13 жыл бұрын
Excellent video! Thank you so much! Worked just fine on my '06 focus. The real trick here is that you remove the mounting bolts first, making it easier to get the connectors off, as you can move the starter around. The Haynes manual is usually pretty good, but not on this one. It recommended removing the intake manifold, radiator, power steering pump, and air cleaner!

Thank you for providing a clear and concise video that shows how to remove and reinstall the starter. I am at a loss about what the 13 thumbs down people could have been thinking. At least the ratio is more than 10:1 in favor and you certainly deserve it.

I power washed my engine while the car was running and, at first I didn't have any problems but when I got home my focus would't start. Do you think getting my car wet is what ruined the starter? Thats what I ended up doing after all my efforts to get it back running

I probably would have used a ratchet wrench instead of a deep socket for the bottom however if a socket is required on the top nut then might as well just use a socket for both and save some time. Thanks for the video.

@@craftedbyalison6592 Also pointing at the starter in a video vs actually disassembling the vehicle to work on it are entirely different things. This shit is why mechanics are mechanics, and the people watching this video are trying to learn what they already know.

Do starter connections get a lot of corrosion if the car has been In Connecticut its whole life? Would it make the car not work at idle (stall). I am getting a camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction OBD2 code on my 2000 Zetec. Just finished redoing the timing and it has not changed. Planning on checking alternator and starter cables and connections first. I do not believe there could be anything wrong with the camshaft position sensor but maybe the ignition pack? voltage regulator? relays?
@krushinghead2467 жыл бұрын
So it will slide over the timing gear? Any adjustments there?

I've got a question for ya that I hope you can awnser. I've got a 05 Focus ZX4 with a torn crank case breather hose. Videos I've seen show you have to take the intake apart. After studying some shots it seems to make more sense to go in from the bottom and remove the starter and use double joint pliers to get at the clamps. Does this make any sense or would I be wasting my time?

Watched the video and read the comments. Thought I was ready. NOWHERE does anyone mention needing a 7mm to remove the 8 tiny screws holding on the plastic cover (that is not at all referred to in the video and only briefly in the Comments.) Wasted my time at the tool store without this information and now I have to clean everything up and go back. Incomplete information is as frustrating as incorrect information. UPDATE: Nor did anyone mention the 3 hidden body fastener clips holding that on even after removing the 8 screws.
