How to change a pressed in wheel bearing on a Ford Fusion. This is a 2011 Ford Fusion with a bad driver front wheel bearing.

Thank you VERY much for posting this Ford Fusion 2010 front wheel bearing replacement video! I had to order an Ingersoll impact driver short to remove the ball joint from the knuckle. Also, since I had to use car jacks (not automotive lift) ordered Sunex 2300 universal impact joint which prevents flexibility to remove the two lower arm control bolts (22mm). Once my Ingersoll impact driver arrives, I will use a local machine shop to remove the wheel bearings. And yes, I will ensure the machine shop only uses the same diameter as the INNER ring to press. Again, if you do not have a shop metal press find a local machinist to do this work! Thanks again!

If he knew what he was doing why did he remove all that it can be done on car with a bearing removal kit eliminating all that disassembly

I have no idea why you would pull the whole assembly out vs just using a puller or hub tool to remove the and replace the bearing. Also, I don't know why the whole reassembly is missing.

I have this 2010 Fusion that I suspect a wheel bearing issue. While on jack stands I checked for a loose wheel (not loose) then I put it in gear to check the CV axle (no noise). When I give it a little gas while on the stands the passenger side wheel will stop with a slight grind/rub noise and then go. It doesn't matter if the wheels are turned or straight, when I give it some gas the passenger side wheel stops with a grind/rub noise and then goes. Does this sound like a wheel bearing issue to you? Thank you in advance.

That's the traction control kicking in because it's detecting slip. I'm having the exact same issue with my '11 Fusion and did the exact same test with identical results. As soon as I turned off traction control, it stops the grinding before it turns. I'd be careful though as running it in gear while on stands WILL trigger the ABS and Service AdvancTrac lights on your dash. As soon as it's back on solid ground and you drive it they will go away but just an FYI.

Very helpful video, Thanks! However on my Fusion (2010 3.0 v6) the axle nut is 1-1/4" (32mm) not 34mm.

The smart diy’er will just buy a new spindle assembly with the bearing/hub & everything else pre-installed for $150 or so. No messing around with pressing and it’s like 5 bolts total after removing wheel/brakes. I bet it will be twice as less money than what you’re charging just for the install.

Why is it that NOBODY has a video showing it all being put back together? Hell, for a beginner, that can be the hardest part; getting it all back together RIGHT, and without issues. It’s easy to tear stuff down. It’s not always so easy (at least for beginners) to properly put everything back together... Sheesh...

@@SteveHacker A wheel bearing isn't exactly a beginner level job. Additionally, if you are, in fact, a beginner and tackle such an endeavor, you should be taking mental and/or written notes on the installation process, during disassembly.

Question for you. If you don't have a shop press would you recommend using an "on car" wheel bearing press kit from an autozone or no.

Yes. I just replaced a pressed rear wheel bearing on an AWD Ford Escape and actually used threaded rod with washers, nuts and a bearing installer kit. I basically made my own hub tamer kit. I keep saying I’m going to buy one of those kits...

the whole assembly from rock auto is cheap with new hub bearing and bearing housing.why do all the press work when its cheaper labor wise just to swap it out?

I can't get the axle out of the hub. I tried various tools and tools end up breaking. Now I have the whole assembly with the shaft out of the car, even with that I can't get the axle out. I only bought bearing thinking I can reuse the hub. Lower control arms the bushing/Sleeves came out instead. Now i have to deal with them. The front end of this car is pretty much done after I hit a pothole. It was making noises and shake when braking. I have all the suspension parts need replacing.

2010, 2011, and 2012 are basically the same, they are the 2nd generation fusions

I had a serious shimmy on braking in my 2008 Milan, where even the steering wheel was shaking, and I was convinced it was a front brake or front suspension, or even bearing issue. I had already replaced the three motor/trans/dog bone mounts, which got rid of shaking on acceleration. I knew the left rear bearing was bad. Switched it out, pretty easy, it’s only front wheel drive. Amazingly this got rid of 70% of the steering wheel shake, which blew my mind. How could a rear bearing cause that much front end shake? Well it did. But there’s still some left, but I checked right rear bearing and it spins smoothly, no noise, no play at all. Has anyone ever had a bearing that ruined out to be bad but with no normal symptoms? All front suspensions parts seem to check out, but haven’t checked front rotors for warpage or runout, yet under a bit harder braking the shimmy goes away. Any ideas what could cause the shimmy, even in the steering wheel? Inky under light to moderate braking, but more than about 60% brake pedal pressure it smooths out. Front bearings seem good too. Tires are smooth at all speeds and relatively new, no weight missing, doubt it’s tires. Can front brakes in need of work smooth out under harder braking?

Warped front rotors can cause the steering wheel to shake. Also, take apart the brakes and make sure the pad slides and caliper slides are moving freely. Often times, even if you have a warped rotor you can eliminate the shaking steering wheel by freeing up the calipers pins and slides.

Id also check the motor mounts had a bad one that caused your symptoms easily replaced

ts6034 Oh... My 2011 Milan has a very slight vibration in the front end that's driving me nuts. I was thinking it might be a bearing but my car only has 79k on it. I didn't notice it with snow tires and wheels. Maybe I just lost a wheel weight or something. I don't know.

Sometimes the axle seizes in the hub and bearing. Easier to work on on a bench. You may need a torch and a press.

That would have been much easier for sure. I did that on a Jeep Liberty. Found the knuckle online with splash shield and pressed bearing installed.

No way that press is rated at 60,000 lbs Maybe 20,000 lbs would be the safe limit for use, that is all you really need,most of the time.

It's RATED for 30 TON's, which is 60,000 lbs, typical jacks used on them are 20 ton jacks... the one I just got from Harbor Freight has a 20 ton jack on it, not sure what the OP's jack cap is... but that's where the 60k comes from... Google is your friend :)
