An honest review of the mk1 Ford Ka after 1 year of ownership

I had one for about 2 years , it was stabile and always start no matter how cold it was. The little KA was a pleasure to drive, like a little gokart. My 1,3 engine could take me up to 185 km/h , about 115 miles. I send it to the car graveyard after 2 years because it was to much rust, and will cost to much to repair. But the car was good and cheap to run

Brought back some memories, my first car was a Ka, a nicer model I think, it had leather steering wheel and gear knob. It was a pretty bulletproof car, no rust and it once ran for a few months without coolant. I had to change the brake lights monthly as they kept blowing. My favourite thing was the A/C that still blew cold, heated windscreen was broken though. In the end it passed an MOT but had a massive list of advisories (mainly suspension parts), the garage suggested it's ready for the scrap heap as would be more than the value to fix. Next door to the garage was a Vauxhall dealership and they were doing a scrappage scheme, I got £2k for it and financed a brand new Corsa (in profile pic but it's long gone now, my mileage went up so got a diesel Astra which is a great all rounder), the difference in refinement and comfort going from 07 Ka to 2016 Corsa was quite unbelievable and I got so many toys, I've not looked back from new cars.

Been looking for a shitbox to own for as little money around the UK as possible. And I've ended up to look around ford ka's. Insane how little does insurance actually cost on these, and to be frank, these are pretty nice looking little cars for what they offer.

What’s the oil change interval on these mate? Great review btw

Thanks for watching, Michael. I changed the oil once a year on all my cars I've ever owned. The official interval is between 8,000 - 10,000 miles. As for the oil itself, I recommend you use 5W30 semi-synthetic. And of course, change the oil filter as well while you're at it.

How did you find it driving a car with no rpm counter?

Easy. You just need to listen to the engine when setting off. In my opinion it made me a better driver

If you find one in decent condition then yes. Aside from the rust, these cars are very reliable. I suggest you look for a Zetec Climate trim as they had the best equipment and as well as that, alloys and a small roof spoiler that really improved its look. Let me know if you buy one!

No rev counter!

Only the Zetec Climate, Finale, Luxury, SportKa and StreetKa got rev counters as standard. That's how they made them.
