Haha I actually went to dealer to order the AWD and an unsold hybrid unicorn actually arrived while i was there so I bought it. I still ordered the AWD just in case.. Stay tuned in 4 to 8 months to see which one I end up with.. That said if you're used to winter conditions a front wheel drive should get you though any conditions you need to be out in. My issue is muddy back roads I hunt and fish on . thanks for watching

@@angling_arrows Your assessment on the traction control system is correct when in deeper snow. Anything over 4” you need to deactivate the TC to get that wheel spin. I have the AWD 2.0 and I have a video going through about 10” of fresh snow on my channel. Check it out. I support small channels like ours . Keep up the good work. I subbed.

If my conversion math is right that should be approx. 62 miles per 100k and 2 gallons for 7.9 liters giving you an average 31 mpg for winter driving in your part of Canada including warming up the truck. Not bad and it looked like it handled your snow all right enough. I noticed that you did not have the Continental all season tires on that truck. Can I ask what you replaced them with and why the rears as well? Unrelated but I had a instructor (librarian @ Winnona, Minnesota) in college who was originally from Saint John's. It looks like the snow you get as opposed to where I'm from tends to be heavy and wet which I guess makes sense given your loacation. This was an honest video about winter driving. No ideal conditions from the Sunny South or California where they don't have to put up with the months on end of the white stuff. Thanks for the upload.
@angling_arrows

there's a bunch of questions in there to reply to. lol. my fuel conversion admittedly sucks . but I think you're close for sure . our snow is normally quite wet and heavy.. I could have done a video of driving though 2 ft of light lluffu powder but trust me the 5 or 6 inches of heavy stuff is worse for driving in .. I upgraded the tires to a bf Goodrich AT the dealer gave me a small credit for the stock tires.. I'm impressed that you questioned the ats kn read as well .. I recently watched a maverick where a guy in a state with mild wnters was to just put snow tires on the front and save money ... well I've driven alot of miles in the snow recreational and professionally... and my experience has been if you have less aggressive tires on the back it will fish tail or slide when braking or turning in slippery conditions. I responded to a few accidents as a firefighter where this had happened. ..lastly it may have been a typo lol but saint John is in New Brunswick.. St.John’s is in Newfoundland... I know someone who flew to the wrong one once 🤣🤣 thanks for watching and the comments

I'm kind of of the same mind set .. so I guess we'll see. I've actually ordered an AWD maverick. But not 100% if I'll go though with it and sell the hybrid or keep the hybrid I got a few months at least to decide. I'd love to see the AWD hybrid released but my uneducated guess is 2024 model year.

@@angling_arrows you’re probably right, they can do the AWD hybrid easily since they already offer than on the Escape, but they have no incentive since they can’t build enough to keep up with demand already

@@angling_arrows Since you get 2 trucks for the price of one, I would keep both. Hwy mpg is almost the same so use the AWD for road trips for more capability and safer in weather. Use the hybrid as a commuter. Or sell one for a profit. Whatever you do don't just give away your potential profit to the dealer by telling him you will not buy. He will high five his Mgr as you walk out the door and probably ADM +15k.

@Thor Odin son every time you slow down, all that energy you spent speeding up disappears in heat in the brakes, why not grab that back and reuse it! No need to have such a pessimistic outlook, well made hybrids are a big part of the future.

Front wheel drive is better than rear wheel drive in the snow. Also Bridgestone blizzaks are the best winter tires.... But the mileage doesn't seem too good. They say the Ford Escape hybrid can get 900km on a tank. I have a 4x4 chevrolet colorado diesel which I love. It gets me 1000km on 76 litres.

The blizzard are a good ice tire but if i recall not as good in deep snow. The chev diesel engines get great millage . a Buddy got has a 1500 diesel gettkv less than 10 /100 that said with the warmer westher the hybrid maverick is down around 7l/100 included towing a small boat

front wheel drives will certainly get you around in most winter conditions..A good set of tires is a must for snow however.. There certainly seems to still be a huge delay in getting the mavericks built.. I'm still not sure if I'm gonna to keep my hybrid or get the AWD I spend a fair bit of time on woods roads as well as towing.. I was really hoping they wound announce the AWD hybrid. but no talk of it yet

What snow tires did you get? Because there's no way the factory "all weather" tires are going to perform well in snow. I'm in Minnesota and I'm looking for something economical for a commuter that handles well in snow. My Ford f150 gets 18mpg. I had a jeep that was amazing in the snow but it got 16mpg. I'd kill for 40 with the gas prices today.

I have the BF Goodrich all terrains (also says Baja championship in small letters) they are a 10ply or load E ... I bought them at the Ford dealer.. around 1200 Canadian which is probably 600 us. lol ... I run them all year and am getting 10l/100km city and 8L/100km highway .. roughly 25 amd 30mpg .. which is exactly what the EPA rating for maverick is .. I had them on the front wheel drive hybrid last winter and keep them for the all wheel drive I have now .. no complaints
