This thing is really turning out to be a pretty epic build. I love all these high end parts and the explanation. It's interesting to see just how much performance you can squeeze out of old suspension tech. Also, PT is looking jacked. And we also need to get you guys about 300 more subs..

be sure to check the torque on the main pivot on the watts link. being a single sheer type mount, vibration can cause the bolt to back out. grassroots motorsport had a similar issue in their s197 5.0

Love this content guys, actual things people can do with quantification on track and not just crazy all out builds. One tip though, its a bit wonky that one side is 1.4 neg camber and the other is 2, in my understanding it is best to be equal in every aspect you can. I understand if you could only get 1.4 but evening it out would balance the front more, especially if its .6 a degree difference
@speedacademy
@speedacademy 8 жыл бұрын
Truth be told, .5 of a degree is not that big a deal. If you look at how much that is in the real world then you'll quickly see it's not going to do anything wonky to the suspension.

Be careful. I've seen two of those upper poly bushed control arms fail. It needs to twist. Those polly bushing don't twist. If you left the stock rubber in the diff housing you should be ok though.

If you disconnect the rear shocks and let the axle hang 100% then removing the gas tank is not necessary to be able to remove the UCA.

Man I hope those new suspension parts actually help. I'm just worried because you guys already were saying the car was better around the track than the BRZ. Hopefully these upgrades don't affect it negatively. Suspension setups are basically black magic and once they work good I suggest not touching them lol.

@michaelallen2501

I know I would be battling my front lower arms on my 96 Z/28. Instead I bought the cheapest complete oem style arms I could. and pressed out the questionable junk. And pressed in some poly bushings and ACDelco ball joints. Much easier working with clean, new (but shitty) stuff lol.

@aussiebloke609
@aussiebloke609 8 жыл бұрын
I thought the rule was for toe-in if you're RWD. Toe-out may give you a lot of darting around under heavy braking as bushing compliance will let the wheels pivot towards the rear a little and add to your toe-out number.
@aussiebloke609
@aussiebloke609 8 жыл бұрын
PS: How does a solid axle get to have toe-out? I thought the housing would have to be bent for that to happen, since the axle tubes should (in theory) be perfectly in line with each other across the car. Or am I missing something here?
@speedacademy
@speedacademy 8 жыл бұрын
From a safety, daily driving standpoint toe-in is good but for performance you want to have a bit of toe out to help with rotation. It does cause a bit of instability at high speeds though. Well worth the trade off.
@speedacademy
@speedacademy 8 жыл бұрын
In theory it should be perfect but with bearings, bushings, etc. there's always a bit of slop so it can add toe out/in.
@pballer2005

How do you have toe out in the rear with a solid axle?
@ryanrohauer5940
@ryanrohauer5940 8 жыл бұрын
lukeybabes1 I don't think you can the wheel has to stay mated to the axle, flush. so I can't see any way of adjusting the toe angle and not fucking up the diff or axle bearings
@lukeybabes1
@lukeybabes1 8 жыл бұрын
Ryan Rohauer that's why I'm asking how they have toe out. Didn't see any joints on the axle shafts they pulled out. So how can there be toe out?
@speedacademy
@speedacademy 8 жыл бұрын
Because there's always a bit of play in the bearings, axles, etc. so you get a bit of toe out/toe in that occurs.
