As a Power Wagon owner myself, and bored at the moment, here are my thoughts to the new competition: - I immediately bolted on better 35" wheel/tire setup straight onto the Power Wagon and sold the factory wheel/tires to offset the upgrade and viola...all fixed. You can probably bolt on 37" to the Ford without too many issues I would imagine. - Anyone that bought a Power Wagon for towing capability or a diesel engine missed the point of the trucks design and capabilities/limitations. The towing capacity has nothing to do with the motor as the biased reviewer claims, it is due to an off-road centered suspension setup. - Any competition is welcomed in the market as it does force upgrades, revisions, and price reductions for all manufacturers. - Power Wagon and Raptor are not direct competitors aside from being off-road specific vehicles. Power Wagon will go everywhere a Raptor will go, just slower...a Raptor will not go everywhere a Power Wagon will go no matter what button you press on the dash. I surmise that will be the same we see here with the Tremor, similar to comparing the Rebel to the Raptor...they don't compete on equal footing. - The ground clearance under the rear differentials are likely to be similar in both trucks, you cannot just shrink that stuff down without losing the strength needed for these big trucks...especially towing 20k. - A massive, heavy diesel engine in an off-road truck right over the front axle? If you only ever intend to drive on solid terrain you shouldn't have too many issues...head out to Galveston Island any given weekend and see all the lifted diesel trucks with the front ends digging into the sand looking for a shortcut to China. - A truck that can tow over 20k will not have a suspension that can compete with the Power Wagon, just as a Power Wagon with it's off-road setup will never compete against a towing focused HD. The two activities are so far out from each other they cancel each other out. Given the focused nature of the Power Wagon, it can still tow a respectable amount...easily handles my 35' travel trailer. The Tremor will tow a lot and be respectable off-road. - Tire size and winches can be added and changed to fit your needs, so not really a limitation...but once you add 35" tires, the Power Wagon probably has the same approach angle and if you added a winch to the Ford you have the same ability to rescue yourself. - Without the articulation, it physically cannot outmatch the Power Wagon. Without the locking differential up front, it depends on a computer to try and find traction between the front tires. - A couple of skid plates does not equal the amount of armor underneath the Power Wagon. - The Fords shocks are possibly better, but wont know until testing...Power Wagon shocks have only ever let me down on washboard dirt roads...but that is true on most suspensions. - Both have dumb stickers, only difference is the Power Wagon sticker is backed up with real world proof of concept so far. While competition is good in the segment, the reviewer expecting this to beat the Power Wagon based on the released information from Ford is pure bias. I think each manufacturer should offer a Power Wagon-type truck for their loyal customers, but this attempt looks like a few basic off-road components slapped on to create a quick entry to the market and fire a shot across Rams bow for the future. This truck does have a role to fill and that is towing your toys across some brutal terrain to go play and have some fun with it as well while your there if your trailer can handle it. However, just like a Power Wagon cannot go off-road like a Jeep, expect the Tremor to not go off-road like a Power Wagon.

IndependantResearch I agree and disagree about different things but the main thing was when you spoke about the raptor and how the power wagon can do whatever a raptor can it’s not true. Power wagons don’t have to suspension for high-speed desert running (what the raptor was made for) and it to heavy to try to do it. The raptor is a Trophy truck kind of truck the power wagon is a mostly all around kind of truck

Why are people commenting about it not being as capable off road when they haven’t driven it yet? How do you know? No locking front differential but the same LSD front differential as the Raptor which has proven it’s more than capable. And while there are no disconnecting sway bar Ford’s monobeam front suspension system traditionally has excellent articulation. Point is until they go head to head I’m going to reserve judgment.

Nailed it! You put a capable off-roader in the seat of any decent 4x4 and they'll school all these big mouth, all blow and no show wanabe's. Many give themselves away immediately by focusing on the diesel option or the winch and locker topic. Diesels are for hauling loads down the road, not crawling off road. And if no winch is a deal breaker, they probably aren't smart enough to be off road anyway. And if Ford put one on the truck they wouldn't like the brand offered! ;-)

I've always kind of felt Chevy lets down their supporters with no good off road package. Its always been just a skid plat, Rancho shocks and some decals and maybe a rear locker.

It’s not the engine that reduces the Power Wagon’s towing capacity-its the suspension. You don’t want a stiff, non-compliant suspension for rock crawling. It’s a compromise. If you want the best Offroad capability, you need to reduce payload so you can create flexier springs. That’s why (in addition to the lack of disconnectable swaybar) that the Ford does so poorly in RTI.

This particular compromise will be appealing to a larger group of people I think. If you're going to pay that much for a truck it makes more sense to have all the payload and towing capability along with decent offroad capability. Ford will sell way more of these than Fiat will sell PWs just because it will still make a good tow rig.

Nope. Heavy iron big block has no place in a mustang. Ford made this for towing. What would be gained? The coyote V8 already makes 460hp and the Voodoo 520hp.

Buy a vehicle and use it as you see fit. I set my trucks up to go off road and have never shy'd away from testing the limits no matter how expensive. If you're afraid of using the capabilities/intended purpose of a vehicle for fear of breakage or scratches, then you probably can't afford that particular vehicle in the first place.

They wont because of the substantial weight of the Cummins and higher center of gravity. For an off road truck the gasoline Hemi is a better choice. For the main purpose this truck was built for anyway.

Why? So you can say "hold on a second... my truck ran out of cat piss"? New diesels are too high maintenance for this type of driving. They use to be awesome and it would have awesome before the EPA decided to put makeup on a pug and call it a beauty queen... Tell you what, find an old 12v or DD6.5 Drop it into an 80s style pickup. Fix it up super nice and you will have something 8 times better than this for 40k less and the government can't do shit about it.

My 16 Power Wagon went to Moab for a full week of off-roading over rocks. Nearly stock with rock sliders. With 50 other Power Wagon owners. Held every year. Power Wagons in Moab.

Meh, as a current Power Wagon owner, I'm kinda disappointed. This doesn't move the bar much, and it certainly isn't better in technical off-road capability. Better RTI due to the RAMs suspension design and a true front locker will separate the two. This is no more than what the FX4 package always should have been.

@@dillonh321 The Cummins is bolt in, there is nothing to "make it fit." They don't do it because it's an off road focused truck and a big heavy diesel is counterintuitive to it's purpose.

That diesel is why it doesnt have a disconnecting sway bar, and why the ram has no diesel. The engines are so much larger that there is no room for the axle to articulate.

@@eichler721 love 5.9 but to heavy for wheeling. Need to offer Cummins 3.8 can put out 300 hp and over 500 ftlbs but is lighter and shorter witch would shift more wieght toward rear.

Ford has a long history of re-using names. Taking the name of a trim package of one particular and spinning it off into it's own separate model. I.e: Ranger, Explorer, Edge, and now Tremor.

Yup, it was an epic fail. Because everyone I know wanted a SC 5.0 instead of the Ecoboost. And I think it made it 2yrs. Ford said it had to do with poor Reg Cab sales across the board. While I agree Crew Cab trucks rule sales, the guys who like RC trucks basically get a XL or XLT option. Even if u try to special order a better package, you can't.

A zillion years ago (I think it was 2003 and 2004-ish) Ford offered a Ranger Tremor, which featured a whopping 10" down-firing speaker in a Ranger Supercab. ("You'll hear it before you see it!" was Ford's claim.) It could be had only with a V-6 engine and automatic transmission. It had a nicer interior than the ordinary XLT cab, along with a special wheel design. In ~2014, Ford offered a F-150 Regular Cab short bed with a 3.5 EcoBoost engine and a 4.11 rear axle, and called it a "Tremor"... it was quite a snappy performance truck. But it died when the aluminum body arrived on the scene. Sadly, they sold very few of them... people wanted a back seat more than high performance.

The Power Wagon was out of production for the vast majority of the time window. But I do think its the better offroad truck. The Tremor very much is an FX4^2 package.

The power wagon still has more mechanical off road features like the front locker and sway bar disconnect, so it will probably be a little better off road. But the Ford will most definitely beat it on road with its towing and payload capacities

The Power Wagon will win on road for the ride with the more soft suspension. The biggest issue people will find out about is the weight of the diesel in soft terrain and up hill climbs, if they actually take it offroad.

Besides that added weight gives it more traction, and more power to climb steep hills something a lack of power wagon can't.

@@LolliWANG505 maybe I should have mentioned I have a 2016 Power wagon, live in Colorado and do take it offroad. Not sure where you got your info but the power wagon has plenty of power off road. Actually as a power wagon owner, my biggest complaint is not enough brake to hold it back. You obviously have no experience with the power wagon off road.

@@BUILTDIESELMAFIA Well, the Power Wagon could drag itself upside down a 45 degree rock cliff with its winch, so there's that. Also, it's a lighter truck with more flex and weighs a lot less so you're not going to sick in mud / sand / snow as much and it's going allow the truck to get traction easier without slipping. I'm not a Ford or a Dodge guy, but I don't think the Ford is going to come close to the power wagon for right now, maybe in the future when they add more stuff.

@@dedalliance1 I have 2 Fleet Powerwagons at work. Great on logging trails. They will crawl over anything. Mud / snow? Too heavy for its own good. The payload and towing numbers on the PW are horrid compared to the standard Ram packages. It depends what you are after.

So the ranger tremor was a sound system The f150 tremor got a 3.6 TT in a single cab truck And the Super Duty tremor is a offroad package. What I don’t understand is why this package isn’t the standard fx4 model? I feel like this is how the fx4 should be compared to the standard 4wd model.

Bradley Beyer I don’t think the fx4 should come like this. What about all the ranchers, oil guys and others out there that just want the skid plates and normal fx4 parts. They don’t want the lift and bigger tires for gooseneck and just don’t need all the extra goodies. To add to the price of an alreDy expensive truck.

Remember when "Tremor" was a sound & style package for the Ranger? Peperidge Farm remembers. This is at least the second Ranger package name that has been thrown at another vehicle. The first was the Edge, which went from being a Ranger style package to being a fat, jacked up hatchback.

This is pretty lazy on Ford's part to add basic/cheap mods to a truck and then market it as a competitor to a built-from-the-ground-up rock crawler like the power wagon. If this was their big plan, why didn't they do it sooner. As far as looks, it looks like a basic super duty with a lift and big tires. Cool.....

I think the gas is the better option for off road. It’s not near as heavy as the diesel and has a higher RPM for the muddy stuff. As far as betting the ram, I don’t think so lol

Ryan rkj - in theory this may be true, but in actuality a LSD is going to have much worse driving characteristics compared to a locking diff. Rock crawling, especially in high-risk scenario, demands stable and predictable tire placement and power transfer. An LSD coupled with a computer isn’t going to deliver that. If it were the case, there wouldn’t be an aftermarket for locking-differentials, rather we’d see an industry around LSDs and ECU ‘tunes’, but we don’t.

Ram has said in the past that the winch's space requirements prevent the diesel in the Power Wagon. Maybe Ford has this issue too since they didn't offer the winch.

Why, are u racing a PW on a dragstrip? Too much HP or TQ may negatively affect it's capability for desired purpose. Buy a 4x4 SLT, do the Ramrunner conversion and slap a supercharger on the 6.4L then go have fast fun across a desert with the Raptor boys for less money.

Im just saying from the 5.7 to the 6.4, the small power bump couldve been easily done on the 5.7 itself and seeing what ford and chevy has to offer, dodge's 6.4 in the power wagon looks weak. Im not saying that it should be a racer. But with what its gonna be doing, at least give it more power

Why? You can get Rams with diesels. You can also get Rams with diesels and put 35s on it. The Ford is still missing the winch, the disconnecting sway bar, and front locker. So how is it ahead? It won't touch the Ram.

Winch is in the future (per video), front limited slip is good enough for my use, and don't care about disconnecting sway bar. Would rather buy the truck as is than spend a bunch of money modifying. I would love a power wagon but the fact it doesn't come with a Cummins is a deal breaker. Also, the Cummins equipped ram does not have rear locker, has open front diff, no winch, or disconnecting sway bar. The Cummins equipped Ram is far behind the Tremor and Power Wagon and would require A LOT more work than 35's to match either truck.

If you are really going off-road and are going crawling, especially in muddy conditions, you actually want the GAS motor. The truck is lighter, has a much better crawl ratio. I had a 2017 F350 Gas. It was really nice but we pulled a really heavy gooseneck on the highway. The truck did the job but was working pretty hard. Now I (the farm actually) have a 2019 diesel. The diesel tows better and feels better on the highway. Both are FX4 XLT Crew Cabs. The diesel is terrible in mud and slippery hilly (steep) conditions. We could go through the mud so much better with the gas truck than we can with the diesel. When we are in the range where we had cattle, with the diesel, it can be really scary. It slides all over and does not climb like the gas did. The trucks are basically the same and have the same tires, size, 10 ply, etc. The diesel is just so much heavier up front. Fortunately we can live without taking the diesel in the hills as we have 3 x F150 FX4 Trucks we put Good Year Dura Tracks on before they even left the dealership. The dealer did this as part of the negotiations. Whew! So anyways, think hard about the Diesel. Nice to say you have one, maybe not nice THAT you have one, depending on the use. Mud is not the diesel’s forte. Safe truckin’, Eh!

True gas is better for 4x4...buts let's be real....99% of these (power wagon, rebel, raptor, tremor etc) are bought for novelty. Power wagon truck usage capabilities are less than a new 1500. If you actually need a 2500 class truck a power wagon wont cut it. The tremor supposedly will. If so the tremor would give you 2500 class capabilities and the novelty of the "off road" truck. Plus the diesel is an option, so someone like me can get it and someone else with different needs/desires can get gas...not the case for the gas only power wagon. I drive the ike gauntlet weekly and any naturally aspirated engine truck will not compare to anything boosted (even unloaded). For me specifically, I wouldn't even consider a gas engine in a truck that size but would love something that came with better off road tools...mainly for unplowed snowmobile parking lots...real off road I'll just grab the ktm hahaha. Happy farming

no its a heavy duty truck with extra offroad options. the pw is a light duty truck with extra offroad options. the pw can only tow barely over 10k pounds which is 1/2 ton standards . the tremmor is going to double that with more ground clearance, better axles,bigger tires,and better fuel economy. the big block 7.3 is supposed to get close to 20 mpg.

Nathon, to my point. I didn't buy my PW for its towing capabilities. If that were a factor, I would have purchased a 2500/3500 with the offroad pkg. Then I would have retained the towing capabilities of the 2500, and had the added skid plates and shocks. The Tremors bigger tires are still Duracraps which many PW owners replace with 35 or even 37s anyway. Give up the winch, the swaybar, the lockers(front and rear), and the articulation for larger tires and more towing? Rather just put the airbags on the PW and get the towing back.

first a 3/4 ton that cant tow over 10k lbs is terrible. its not a 3/4 ton. its more like a raptor which a power wagon looses on every offroad comparison except for the winch. leave it to dodge to by something from someone else to make there truck worth something for example cummins deisel and toyota is making transmisions for the 1/2 tons now. the raptor and tremors are marketed to be true duel purpose for their rating meaning the 1/2 ton can tow 8 k lbs and the 3/4 or 1 ton can tow up to 20k. thats why ford sells millions more trucks

Again, didn't buy a PW for towing. That's not its purpose. PW is still the King of what its built to do. Crawl over things and go anywhere it wants. Its built on the same HD platform as the other 2500s just with softer springs which reduce the towing and payload. Easily fixed with adding airbags. Now the Tremor may very well be best truck for the Oilfield, but it falls short of the PW where the roads end.

Thats b.s. and it may have better towning but I bought my power wagon for going offroad in Colorado, hunting, general outdoor activities. I have 35x12.50's and no problems. Put your money where your mouth is and come on out to Colorado and see if that ford can follow me up the mountain trails. Difference will be Power Wagon owners go offroad. You need articulation for traction. And locking both diff's makes a huge difference. The Fords will just be Mall crawlers. See the videos of power wagon owner meet ups in Moab or visit the power wagon site and make an educated decision before spending your hard earned cash. Tow rig or real offroad proven capable truck.

@@joelacevedo6146 locking hubs are not the same as a locking differential. The locking hubs just engage the front wheels with the axle shafts, it still has an open differential. The locker locks both axle shafts in the axle case together making them spin together.

Brad Boyd Dude. Ford has had manual locking HUBs (the knobs on the wheels you turn to fully engage the 4wd system) forever, NOT a locking differential (the axle configuration that allows equal power to both wheels). Manual locking hubs mean nothing other than having to go outside the vehicle and turn he knobs separately to get the wheels to go into 4wd. This doesn’t mean the wheels will spin at the same speed or power. I have a Geo Tracker with manual locking hubs, but the wheels certainly don’t get the same power each.

There’s a lot of situations where a front locker sucks but switching to open isn’t ideal either. Coupled to the incredible off-road system has should really be amazing. Don’t know it till TFL tries it

This is an excellent offering by Ford! I think they checked all the boxes for their buyers. HD capability and power, on Duratrac 35s, with some good traction management software and hardware.

Love it...love everything about it! I will certainly be buying a few Tremor OEM parts for my 2017 F250. I’ve got too many mods and memories in my truck to trade for one, but I’ll definitely be taking advantage of some great factory parts. Wish this was available in 2017!!! I can see it being a competitor for the power wagon, but since it’s ranged throughout all models I see it being compared to the Rams off-road package instead. It’s offered throughout models like the tremor, hill descent control, bigger tires, bill stein shocks, etc.

6.2L makes 385hp so the 7.3L will be in the 450hp range ;the 7.3L is 18 percent larger than the 6.2L in cylinder displacement. The engine torque will be well over 500 ft lbs . Awesome work Ford.

@@ThePokeCzech Do you really think the bean counters at Ford are going to offer a truck that won't sell? I know they occasionally miss the mark but they've pretty much owned the light truck market my entire lifetime. They know exactly where the price break is these days where a product won't sell. Look at Jeep, a Wrangler Rubicon L for $55K and up, and they sell like hot cakes, jet can't tow much more than a pop up camper.

You know what I actually really like this because it’s going to force ram to improve the power wagon which was almost nearly impossible before - first thing making the tires 35 inches for starters once it does that all it needs to do is increase towing and maybe offer a diesel option and it will remain unbeatable 😎

This is what the FX4 package should really be. It’s a shame they didn’t benchmark against the Powerwagon with front-locking diff, winch, and disconnecting swaybars. If this is actually intended to do rock-crawling, a LSD and full-swaybars isn’t the way to go.

Ram Runner torson front diff. It’ll lock up on its own. It’s considered a “limited slip” but it’s more like a mechanical locker.

I feel like a limited slip in the front would be terrible in the snow for normal driving in the curves. It would be nice if it was electronically selectable. The rest is meh. I've got a FX4 with 4.10s and it think it would do just fine with those tires.

A front skid plate would be useless on a solid axle truck and would be near impossible to install without the travel of the axle hitting the skid plate. Your front axle is your skid plate

Biased much? Talking about the wide trim levels of the Ford. Then mention Ram has one, unless u get Tradesman, or opt for the expensive one. Well, I guarantee you that a Tremor Platinum will be a ton more than a Power Wagon.

Tremors due to unknown reliability from Ford introducing new engine. :-) I still drive 7.3 D PowerStroke.

The power wagons de rated tow capacity is not due to the engine. Its drivetrain is exactly the same as other 2500/3500 trucks that can reach upwards of 15k. Its rating is down due to the specific suspension alterations that the power wagon has.
