Great illustration to see how the retainer performs (with the line already removed so you can see it's function), BUT, I can see it being much more difficult to pick that retainer out with the line installed and blocking your dental tool access! A good soaking of KROIL or rust penetrant plus knowledge that the line needs to be pushed IN until the release tool in fully installed until it clicks. After it clicks, Inward pressure must remain on the tool while you now PULL OUT on the line. It fails to relelase if the INward pressure on the tool does not remain while pulling out on the line.

Sir I admire your calm demeanor. I'm always in a rage when doing repairs on my F150. I hate them because they use so much bear or untreated metal.

Well I thought I had it covered. I watched your video on using the Doorman connectors(Those are solid pieces) and the Spectra Premium radiator, and finally this one when the drivers side line wouldn't come out. And the connector would barely turn. The rust and debris took out the plastic tool, and the metal one couldn't do it either. I took a tip from another video and used my Dremmel precision cut off blade to remove the crown of the connector coming nowhere close to the line. Everything came apart nicely. This thin slotted snap shield was changed to solid spring steel in my 2010 XLT. Brian I really appreciate your videos, having been working on my cars for only about 10 years, and approaching 65, I can watch one your videos, and really feel like "I have done that" and don't need to do it again. The 4.0 SOHC Timing chain rattle was the best. Keep up the good work. I'll keep trying as best I can.

"This thin slotted snap shield was changed to solid spring steel in my 2010 XLT" I'll be sure to make a KZbin vid when I change mine cuz everything I see seems to be for "2006 to 2010" but 2010 turns out to be different in reality.

I've never had too much trouble getting these to work the way they should with the proper tool. But there is a trick. You have to push the line "in" with a bit of force to get the tool to seat properly. I know that can be a pain sometimes because these can be in some tight places, but I have found that if you use some long Vice-grip type needle nose pliers on the line and use them as a lever, the line will push in. Then the tool will go into place easily and release the flair and o-ring. These clips are stainless and as you can see, they have no corrosion on them what so ever. This is the same tool Ford uses on their fuel lines and AC lines as well. They were developed by Ford for speed of assembly on the factory floor. Don't get me wrong, some have given me trouble. But, I'm glad they were there as getting two line wrenches into the space they were in would have been next to impossible. I would told your viewers to spring for the tool. They are only a few bucks and will keep them from pulling their hair out of their head.. Great video though.

I was **literally** Googling "free animation" programs" so I could make a little 10-second video explaining why you need to push IN first lmfao.

“It’s a quick connect fitting not a a quick disconnect fitting”. 😂😂🤣🤣. I could not stop laughing. That was a good one.!

Great tip. I hate all these quick connections (fuel injection, etc.) Just a bad plan. Most of the "special tools" don't work. Last time I removed a fuel rail I through the tool across the shop and used a Sharpe cap.

I have 2007 Ford Explorer 4.0 V6. The radiator transmission cooler went bad and let the coolant into the transmission. Just want to know if the transmission need to be replace. I'm going to replace radiator and want to know which transmission line I need to leave disconnect so I can get the old fluid out. Driver side or passenger side line?

If I'm just taking the radiator out to get at the timing chain I can just unscrew the hoses right?

Question, i just ordered the Transmission Line Connector to replace the existing one which is leaking, when I pull out the old one, will the transmission fluid start gushing out?

I have A 06 f-150 STX and the trans. cooler lines are rusted in two. So I will be cutting the lines and unscrewing these quick connectors. What is the part number for these new quick connect fitting? I will just buy new ones.

Where do i get the actual tool and what is it called?
@robschaffer21899 жыл бұрын
06 amd 07 only. 08 to 11 have a tighter fitting that nothing gets into - all of the other older style QR tools were too deep and too thick. I had to get the correct OTC tool... but it was cheap so not a big deal.

Hey Rob I know it's been a while since your comment, but I"m going to replace the radiator on my 201 XLT Explorer. Do you recall which "correct OTC tool" you used?

06 Explorer 4.6 V8 - leak from the inlet on the driver’s side coolant line into the radiator. Radiator was replaced 3 years ago. Can the 0-ring be replaced?
@mr2law9 жыл бұрын
Hi , On my 2007 explorer it was impossible to get anything in between the cooler line and the fitting . I was able to get a 0.010" feeler gauge in , but did not succeed in disconnecting it . I ended up unscrewing the whole fitting and reinstalling it on the new radiator.
@bsrbennett52517 жыл бұрын
It's a different style and the line was probably fused to a nylon ring in there. See my new comment on how to resolve if you ever need to replace the connectors.

@FordTechMakuloco10 жыл бұрын
Yes you could spin it out intact and transfer to the new radiator but using the new fitting is best.

Hell no, angle grinder with cutting disc--better and faster than the actual tool. Even better yet, tubing cutter and flaring tool. F*** Ford and every other manufacturer who uses these.
